more questions than answers

Rixta Francis
Earlier this year I diagnosed myself with EMS and some simple measures
I took had effect, which to me proved that I was right. But to know
better what to do I bought a Gauss meter and to my big surprise the EMF
levels inside the house are very low, at most places less than 0.5 mG.
Only the fridge and microwave give much higher readings, but I don't
spend half days stuck to the fridge.
So what should I do with this information? I'm still convinced I have
EMS. Maybe the low readings are still too high for me because I also
have ME/CFS? Unfortunately I can't compare it with my old living
environment.

Anyone any ideas, tips, suggestions, information? I'm quite confused.

Regards,
Rixta

Good rule of thumb is to be at least 4 feet away from an electrical source, including wiring in the walls, which sends out a magnetic field - move your bed into the centre of the room at night or better still turn off as many fuses as you can in your fusebox. The magnetic field reading appears to be exponential, very high close up to vacuum cleaners, heaters, hairdryers, etc then dropping rapidly.

What make is your meter? The trifield one is great its frequency weighted, which means that it picks up on the fact that a doubling in frequency of magnetic fields doubles the energy, ie say you are picking up 1mG at 50hz, if it is 100hz should be 2mG, but if not frequency weighted will still show 1mG. http://www.trifield.com/content/the-trifield-meter/

"A TriField meter, when exposed to a 3 milligauss field, will read "3" if
the frequency of the field is 60 Hz, but it will read "6" if the 3
milligauss field is at 120 Hz. In contrast, a non-frequency-weighted
(the flat response version of the TriField) meter will read "3" in both
cases, and a 60 Hz-only meter will read "3" and "0" respectively (even
though in the 120 Hz case, the current induced in a conductive body is
twice as much.)"

Another thing is that most meters dont measure the intermediate frequency fields (1khz to 1mhz kicked out by appliances such as computers, tvs etc. Also probably missing out on measuring the dirty electricity, radiofrequencies carried in on wiring.

Electrosensitives can be sensitive to much lower levels than 0.5mG.

You will also need a rf meter, the Cornet is good value, to measure wireless, DECT phone and cellphone/basestation radiation Also measures the police's channel TETRA at 400mhz.

http://www.cornetmicrosystems.com/

Would recommend the ED85EX £119.99 which will measure from 1mhz- 8ghz using different antennae, great value for money. I have this and the ED25G £69.99

Hope this helps,

Charlie

Re: more questions than answers

In reply to this post by Rixta Francis
There are many factors that make me feel ill. Besides the stuff flying through the air (microwave signals from cell towers, TV/Radio antennas, cell phone, cordless phone, Wi-Fi, water meters, etc...) the electrical power running through the house makes me feel ill, get very irritated, crawling sensations on my face, burning skin, etc.

Even though I have filters that keep the Stetzer Meter reading fairly low, the basic 60 herz frequencies of the electricity or something else about the electricity that I cannot control, does effect me.
Turning the power off is the best remedy for me.
There are other factors that I do not have control off yet and those are the ground currents, Hartman lines, etc. I have done a workshop on how to dowse for them and lay copper wires to reroute them but don't know if that is really working enough.
My suggestion is to get more meters, Graham-Stetzer Microsurge meter (https://www.stetzerelectric.com/) to read the "dirty electricity" and also an RF meter to see about the exterior radiation influences.
Off course, turn the power off as much as possible, as well as the other sources of microwave radiation (cordless phones, Wi-Fi and cordless phones from neighbors).
Good luck,
Andrew

Your Gauss meter only reads a limited amount of EMF.
For example, it won't register EMF coming from cell phone
towers, Wi-Fi, cordless phones, TV/radio/satellite, RF noise on
your power lines, etc.  So eyou could have a lot of EMF problems
without your Gauss meter indicating it!

Re: more questions than answers

Yes, you need a microwave detector, RF detector and a Gauss meter.

In fact if you have a really good RF detector, you might not need
the Gauss meter, since there is always some RF on the lines.
But most RF detectors are not good enough.

The "POWERLINE NOISE FINDER" at LessEMF is very sensitive
(0.3 microVolt!).  I have it connected to a Yagi antenna and so far
am very pleased and excited.  I did get ill using it, but the fields
were pretty strong where I was testing.  I did not react when I first
started using it.

I found that a couple of neighbor's houses are emitting tons of RF.
I think it is from solar inverters tied to the grid.  If anyone has
experience
mitigating those, please let me know...

I made a simple ankle band from metal chain, connected that to basic
electrical wire and got the wire outside into the ground. After getting
worse and worse for a long time within a few days I started to feel
considerably better. The change was way too significant to be attributed
to imagination or psychological effects.

I also have several meters.

1.microwave/rf meter: to detect cell towers
2.gaussmeter: for powerline magnetic fields
3.Stetzerizer Meter: for dirty electricity

In my last hotel, I changed rooms to avoid the roof-top cell tower, but then ended up having a room with high powerline magnetic fields 2-4 mG, and eventually started feeling it.  It was like my joints were being impacted.  When I left the room I would feel better.

About the dirty electricity: here's an award-winning story on Canadian 16:9 news: http://www.globalnews.ca/story.html?id=1824722

Nowadays that everyone's starting to adopt CFL light bulbs, dirty electricity is also emerging as a problem.  Each CFL light bulb plugged into the wiring is somewhat additive to the total dirty electricity.

There are different types of smoke detectors -- one requires power
from the house, while others depend purely on batteries.  If you
replace your current smoke detectors with ones that run only on
batteries, they won't care if your house power is on or not.

Hi Rixta,

Sounds like you grounded yourself.
Two thoughts here:
1- grounding is not the same as shielding, as you are still exposed to
whatever you were exposed to in the beginning. It also gives no clue about
what caused the symptoms.
2- if grounding helped your symptoms, maybe you should pursue grounding as
your remedy, why argue with what works?

Emil

Re: more questions than answers

Rixta Francis
I know that grounding works for me, but so far it has only very
limited effect. And I really wouldn't know what I can do more in that
area, as all special grounding devices are made for the North-American
market. They don't work in Australia.:-(

Re: more questions than answers

stephen_vandevijvere
I'm also focusing more on grounding since 4 days, different activities:
barefoot walking in forest
sitting with barefeet in mud
grounded cable attach to body

It's kinda early to talk about results, but at first it seems like I benefit from it too.

Sue also had very good results with sleeping grounded... And Diane in the past too with walking barefoot in forest and in river.

Stephen.

Grounding devices (was: Re: more questions than answers)

Rixta: what do you mean with grounding devices? Bed pads? As in:

http://www.shop.earthing.net/Sleep-Systems_c4.htm;jsessionid=39D457186D27900A4FB203C202B7F80F.qscstrfrnt06

Regards bed pads there seem to be mixed results (I've checked previous messages).

Charles mentioning in early 2007:

...it is wrong for electrosensibles to place some earthing sheets in or under the bed. Unwanted potential differences may occur, and the result is, that one feels much lousier than before. Also, electrical fields may be attracted by such sheets...
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/eSens/message/7532

Charles: do you think attaching a grounded cable directly to body for instance with metal ankle band (like Rixta does) also has "unwanted potential differences"? Or is that only with things like bed pads?

Stephen.
