What kind of microphone do people suggest for skype use?  Are any better than others in terms of ES?  Thanks.

I have a MacBook Air, and I use the built-in microphone. It works really well.

I wouldn't think a microphone would generally be an issue... unless it's
some sort of combination mic-earphone, with bluetooth... :-)

i do not recommend a USB mic... at least last
year when i tested them, they didn't work well
compared to an analog mic... i have a soft voice.
can't remember if i tested the EMR at that time.

i use skype for video calls and magicjack for telephone.
works out well.  i transferred my 25 year phone
number to magicjack, so old friends and clients can
get in touch with me through my old number.

my system consists of an analog mic - an
audiotechnica AT2010 -
i had an M-Audio mic and i liked it too.

i use an M-Audio MobilePre USB box to connect
the mic to my computer.
both are low in EM - and they give me relief from
phone and computer output.

from what i can tell, the EMR is high when MAKING
sound, so headphones, speakers, even phone
receivers and ear buds, all blast EMF into the ear.
but i use my computer's speakers, so i am sitting
a safe distance from the source of the sound.

love, patricia

When I use voice recognition software using a basic mic, I get a real bad
reaction from the mic, it seems as if it rebounds out emr when you speak, I
get  a stinging in my head within seconds - I once set upo the mic in a long
40mm  plastic drain pipe and talked down the pipe it actually worked !

Patricia, does using the M-Audio MobilePre USB box, instead of just plugging the microphone into the microphone jack on the computer, does that somehow reduce EMR/EMF?  Do you have a link to that particular box?  I found the M-Audio website but couldn't find that particular product.

Thanks to everybody else as well for your responses to my original question.

Re: skype microphones

Patricia
russ, hi!  you're welcome.

you plug the mic's cord into the mobilepre and then you connect the mobilepre to the computer with a cord similar to a usb printer cable.

here is a link to a lot of references to the Mobilepre USB:
http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=mobilepre+usb&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

but i think they have now made a newer model.  on the m-audio.com site, look for "preamps".
http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/AudioBuddy.html

i cannot remember if i even tested the difference between a USB mic and the mobilepre + mic,
but i just tested the mobilepre + mic right now and there is no EMF, or very negligible... not visible on my meter.

if i remember correctly, the USB mic has to be internally 'amped up' in some way that makes it more 'electric'.  but then, i am hardly a tech, so i might be mistaken about that.  if you do research, would you please let us know what you find?  all i know is that the mobilepre + amp works well & no emf.

oh, i remember now...  a guy at the pro-sound store told me that the usb mic in general did not output as high quality sound.  perhaps the usb mic will someday but so far - no go.  i had to make hundreds of videos, so i needed a good quality mic.

hmm... russ, i see now what you are asking.
i don't know about a mic that goes into the mic jack.
i needed a mic with a 3-pin connector.
and i don't know why a mic that goes to the mic jack
on the computer would have any emf at all. ???
let me know if you find out what's going on with mics.
:)  love, patricia
