Hello, All - I am new to this forum and appreciate what I've already learned from reading posts - thank you!
For the past several years I've used a Samsung Droid Fascinate (3G smartphone) without too much difficulty (though I do keep it off or at least on standby when I'm not actively using it, as keeping it on drains MY battery swiftly. Too, any phone calls are quite short.) Typically iPhones give me a headache within a minute, but Apple came out with a new one, the iPhone 5s, which has a low SAR rating comparable to my Droid. When the IPhone 5s is in 4G mode then the headache is quick to develop - way too much RF. But I learned last night to program it to run on 3G, and so far it's tolerable. Does anyone have any commentary on using this or other iPhone in 3G OVER TIME? I.e. did symptoms present or did they get worse over time? I must return this new phone tonight if I'm going to return it, and so have precious little time to experiment. Would really appreciate any thoughts! Lucinda |

Typically the people on these sorts of groups don't have much experience with Smart Phones, because they cannot stand to be near them. So I would expect our advice to be limited to our experiences around other people's phones. There does seem to be a general feeling that Android phones are more tolerable than iPhones, but that comparison may be dated at this point. It is true that some phones can be set to run in different modes, and that one mode made be more tolerable than another. And by different modes, I mean that you could set it to 2G / 3G / 4G, and some of these modes have different frequencies depending on who your carrier is (AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile). I would be interested if there was a such a thing as a tolerable 3G / 4G phone... I could buy one for my wife! Marc |

I would like to know the same thing about
iPhone5s

This really depends on the person. All I can say is be very cautious if you notice you are becoming more sensitive. I used to be able to use a cell phone, and at first, it would take 10 minutes or so before I had any symptoms (burning sensation, and pressure). It was an annoyance, but tolerable as long as I kept my calls short. But gradually, these symptoms started sooner. I also began to get a burning sensation on my side, right under the phone, when I kept it on my belt. So I would leave it turned off unless I needed to make a call. But I slowly became more sensitive anyway. And then the headaches and dizziness started. Eventually, I had to stop using cell phones. This was before 3G. And for me, 3G is much worse than 2G was. Originally, I thought the problem was with my cell phone, so I bought another one with a lower SAR rating. Unfortunately, that didn't help me much. |
Thank you, James. I really appreciate your response and your experience is helpful to me understanding my own journey. For several years I spoke 3000 minutes / month on a high
SAR phone (real estate broker). Then my body "explained" to me it did not like it and that a new way of living was necessary!
Per my iPhone, I returned it a short while ago after pressing the "Compass" icon, which "located" me as it sent a strange zinging sensation in my head. Different than the subtle zap I feel when sending or receiving texts / emails. That was enough - back to the store! Goodnight & my best to you! Lucinda From: JamesH [via ES] [ml-node+[hidden email]]

Hi, Marc - thank you for writing & for sharing your thoughts - helpful particularly per the varying frequencies between carriers - logical though I'd not thought of it quite like
that - was more phone centric.
Four years ago I was severely reactive to cell phones & wifi - am deeply thankful to be out of that abject misery. They can still glitch me up but I'm in a vastly more viable place in daily living in this Tech Era. Returned the iPhone a short while ago. Discovered a "compass" button, pushed it ... bizarre sensations in my head as it "located / oriented" which were different than those when I send / receive text messages or emails. That was enough ... back to the store it went! Even though a low SAR phone and it was operating in 3G - still too "zingy" for my brain to well handle. For me the Samsung Fascinate (3G) is tolerable, though do not believe it is still available in stores though possibly could find on eBay, etc. It's the lowest SAR smartphone I've ever come across. Have used it for three+ years. Kind regards, Lucinda From: Marc Martin [via ES] [ml-node+[hidden email]]

Appreciate so much your responses. Am not a tech type at all so the simple insights into how all that works is helpful.
Too, my mind doesn't know the science either but my brain sure knows it got a circular weird zap that I've not experienced before! Lucinda From: Marc Martin [via ES] [ml-node+[hidden email]]
