Hi Amy,
I used detox foot pads once or twice and mine were in the morning very dirty! Black with a metal kind of shine on them! Where did that come from? ;)
I also felt a bit weird afer it...
Interesting bit about foot pads I found on:
1.
http://betterhealthguy.com/joomla/images/stories/PDF/klinghardt_detox_pads.pdf"The MAJOR physiological effect of the foot pads is in the stimulation of the liver and kindny meridians. This increases the metabolic rate at which the liver and kidney cells detoxify the blood and purify the body."

I tried them once (Kinoki brand), expecting not to feel a thing -- and it seemed to make me sick. I had had it on for several hours and I started shaking (like you do when you have a fever) and feeling really creepy. I took it off and recovered after a bit, but I thought that was really weird. The color on the foot pad, by this point, was medium gray. My daughter (who is in med school and thought the whole thing was a crock -- but was curious anyway), tried it and had no reaction and the color after leaving it on all night was only slightly gray, if that.
