Worried about the new chips in credit cards and the like. Help Need info

JDark
Just got a notice from one of my card companies that they are sending me a new card with a chip in it. I have nothing of the like now, nor do I have a "real ID", with a chip-just renewed-no chip.

I worry very much about transmissions from these credit cards, real IDs, and passports with the chip. It seems to me like anything capable of tracking you would transmit.

Please any info or feedback would help.  I just threw a fit and will continue with a chip free card. But it would be nice to have more info for the future.

They don't have batteries in them, so they don't exactly "transmit" in the usual sense.  However, I do think that people can react to them.  I used to have a work ID badge in it that had a chip and an antenna in it, and that badge certainly caused me problems.  They eventually replaced it with a new badge that doesn't seem as bad as the old badge, but I'm sure it's worse than the really old badges that were just plastic and paper.

I just received a new "more secure" chipped card.  How wireless reads could be more secure than swiping a card and entering a secure pin number is beyond me.

Here's how one guy fixed the problem:  be sure to click "next" on each page

Some claim that these chips may still be able to transmit through heavy duty foil, so that locating the chip (if the area is not visible on the card - go into a dark room with a high-powered flashlight behind the card and marking where the chip appears) and then drilling a hole through the chip to disable it.

I saw something on TV about a few yrs ago, that talked of the security of credit card w/ chip and to get your bank to issue one without.  At that time my concern was how good a wifi I could get. I did call my bank over the security issue and they did not have.  I called this card last nite and they said cut up ant toss the new card and keep the old and request a non chipped one in a couple years at the exp date. I do think it's necessary to call and make a fit over this stuff if it's going to have an effect, rather than drilling a hole or removing the chip. The more calls like mine they get, the less they will move forward w/ the chips.  The more requests they get for non chipped, the more they will keep that option. Of course the final solutions would be remove the chip.

They told me on the phone that these chips are different than those of a few years back and claim they create more security. With out the chip, I may have to call or show Id at POS. No problem. Walmart does that at random anyway and then the issue that most retailer have wifi, so they are off limits anyway.

When the card comes in the mail, I should see what the acousticom has to say about it.

If it's safe  and the meter does not light does that mean it's not transmitting anything?
