I have found "cloud storage" to be a particularly bad idea for people with ES (either Mac or PC), as that dramatically increases the amount of network usage. Especially if you have large files that could take days/months/weeks to upload. I had to stop using it even with my wired connection.

I wish I knew before turning it on. It's so odd that if I turn it off it affects the files on my system. I only use it to save passwords and bookmarks, not much else. Steve

Patricia. I was duped into installing yosemite-once on can not be removed. I spent hours on the phone w/ apple trying. I called a local store to find I could pay them to try the same things. I had the choice of having them wipe the drive or a new one. I called PC connection and ordered a much larger HD and changed it out. Now I will have room on my new drive for a partition to install windows, if 10.6.8 becomes too obsolete to use.

Steve you could back you system up on a removable drive and then disconnect the cloud. I have never liked the whole could idea-do not trust computers. That was actually what prompted me at first to want to leave the grid-the grid is dependent on computers-NO and the smart meters gave me the final shove to go low emf solar only.
I have a happy face sticker over my built in webcam that I put there in 2013. I have a major problem w/ the speakers on my macbook, which prompted me to go to youtube to see how to repair. The entire computer insides must come apart-not now I will use headphones. Later on new speakers. I did note that they had to remove the airport and the bluetooth for one of the replacements. I marked the videos if I ever wanted those out-thought maybe when I get around to the speaker job. I would say go to youtube and enter your mac model and "remove airport" "remove bluetooth" and if can't find try "replace speakers". Might not be in english, but you will see how to do it. The youtube video removal sessions are the main solution people have for smart tvs. |
Don't have a back-up drive but really the only things I want to keep are my bookmarks and passwords which I can put onto a thumbdrive. It makes no sense that turning off iCloud should affect my system, if I had known I never would have turned it on Steve
