Re: Where to rent EMF / RF in Boston

Emil at Less EMF Inc
You can rent a nice 3 axis AC gaussmeter from Less EMF Inc:
http://www.lessemf.com/gauss.html#171

This meter is for AC magnetic fields, what some people call EMF.

Hi,

it will only measure low frequencies, probably less than 0.5 MHz.
It measures nothing related to HF-radiation from the Base Station!

No, it covers the frequency range of 25 Hz - 3000 Hz.
You will find quite high readings in this range from the equipment which
powers the antenna (usually housed in a small building nearby).

If you want to measure the radiofrequency radiation, you will need a
different type of meter. There are some inexpensive (albeit less accurate
than the $1800 units) RF meters available for sale at
http://www.lessemf.com/rf.html

Make sure you distinguish between units which offer a relative readout, and
those which offer a calibrated output.

I don't know of a place where you can rent.

Re: Where to rent EMF / RF in Boston

Emil at Less EMF Inc
Meters with relative strength output can be very useful, and often less
expensive than meters with calibrated output. For example, they are most
useful for making comparison measurements, such as before shielding vs
after shielding. Or how strong the signal is in the morning vs evening. Or
how much is coming through the windows vs through the walls. Also, they are
quite useful for determining where the source of the signal is located, or
correlating if the intensity/duration of the signal corresponds to your
symptoms. But if you want to know if the signal strength exceeds a certain
threshold, or if you want to know the absolute strength in units such as
microWatts/ sq cm, then you will need a calibrated instrument.
