Trying to understand cell phone tower readings

I have been house shopping and taking a lot of RF readings. What has confused me is that some homes that are nearer to cell towers have much lower readings than other homes with towers miles away. I got better readings at one home that had a tower 1/3 a mile away compared to another that had a few towers a couple miles away. If my measurements (I am using the Acoustimeter) show good readings (in the green or at zero) even though there is one tower 1/3 mile away and another 2/3 mile away should I be concerned? I worry that maybe the towers may emit other things that the acoustimeter doesn't pick up? I know it will be 100 times better than where I am at now but I want to avoid as much as possible especially when making such an investment as buying a home. Thanks for any help or advice!

#1- trust your meter
#2- you cannot tell anything by looking at the "nearest tower" Remember 3 things: All towers are not equal. The amount of emissions, and the direction of emissions varies greatly from tower to tower. So it is certainly possible to get more radiation from a tower that is further away. In addition, there are many more radiation sources than the towers that you can see. The high readings that you are getting may not be coming from the tower you are looking at. If you can, take readings again, at a different time of day. Readings can vary greatly over time. @Laura - I've seen the same thing with antenna location. It depends where they are aiming the signal and the power strength of the antenna(s). My last house was 1/3 mile away from a tower with antennas aimed my way, yet the RF reads were very low (low frequency magnetic fields were another story). Be sure and check magnetic fields in and outside the home. If the field elevates inside the house when turning a non-fluorescent light on in each room one room at a time, it's most likely a wiring error(s) which can be fixed. However, if the magnetic field is high in the house and yard it's most likely coming from electric utility's system and you will not be able to fix that. Complain to the utility and they might do as they did to me by sending their head "power engineer" over to show you a paper indicating that in Florida, NYC and other places 150 mG is permissible (right, and I'd soon die) therefore, there is no problem for them to fix! I feel better in houses that are acres away from other houses and have their own utility power transformer, but this may not be possible for everyone. Digital 'smart' meters are detrimental to good health, so it would be wonderful to find a home where EMF

Thank you emil and fog top for your excellent advice. I have been measuring electric field readings as well as magnetic in addition to the RF. Some of the smart meters also seem to vary a lot. Some of them I can't seem to pick up much of anything, while others seem to be blasting. I found a newer community where the smart meters, electric and magnetic field readings were superb, even with a tower right next to the community and the houses right next to eachother with small lots and smart meters facing the house. I have found that power lines vary a lot and that even communities where the power lines are buried I can get high magnetic readings coming up from the ground. Makes it really tough to shop for homes since you really have to measure in and out of every single home!!!!
I also worry about being near cell towers in case they make any adjustments or upgrades to increase the strength or coverage in the area surrounding the tower. Is that a legitimate concern when buying a home or not really? |
