I thought I should share what I learned over the weekend.
In terms of supplement treatments, most of the advice seemed to correspond to Martin Pall's NO/ONOO theory. His website has treatment protocols. Magnesium was probably the most mentioned supplement. Pall told me many people do not tolerate magnesium well (though there are several forms to try) and time-release might be a good idea. He mentioned buffered C up to 12 grams per day. He's a fan of hydroxo-B12. He says some of the methyl-B12 will convert to hydroxo so that will help, but not as directly. Natural vitamin E was also mentioned; Rea says the alpha form alone is not enough. I know Carlson makes a tocotrienol E that would fit the bill. Rea advocates multistage water filtration with a ceramic cartridge in stainless steel. Doulton makes one recommended previously on one of these lists. I recently started using one with an activated alumina stage for fluoride (not made by Doulton) upstream of it, plus carbon upstream of that. Pall also recommends folate, but I forget which form. coQ10 was also touted. Rea does metal desensitization (after amalgam removal?). There were also some glutathione fans, and I think phosphatidyl-choline was mentioned once or twice. One doctor, in the midst of describing an elaborate rotation diet protocol (about 100 food groups, with nothing in the same group eaten more than once in 4 days), said the most effective piece of advice was to avoid drinking any fluids during, or 30 min before, or 1-2 hours after meals, because fluids would dilute the digestive juices. Another said it was critical to eat while seated, not standing. I will not summarize the papers by Magda Havas, Sam Milham, and Andy Marino. Marino spoke mainly about his nonlinear analysis of EEG response to strong EMFs. I will not mention the energy field visualization, electrostatic grounding, water frequency memory, lip stretching therapy... There was a vendor, SaunaRay, with an infrared sauna that was supposed to be low EMF, and be constructed to be chemically safe. In terms of magnetic field it is low, which apparently sets it apart. But it has digital controls. I should have tested it out more... Rea recommends getting a sauna very hot, then turning it off before entering so as to avoid EMF issues. Lisa Nagy recommends some low EMF air filters. Key pharmacy was there and sells nasal glutathione among other products,... and bought me a nice dinner. There was also a cabinet/furniture maker, some medical testing service that tests lots of things including porphyrins, and Rea's people selling a variety of books and an official "No Cell Phone Use in this Area" sign. Although the event was supposed to be fragrance and cell phone free, compliance was not that great, especially regarding cell phones and computers. Rea is also a fan of spring water in glass bottles, which were provided free of charge; pretty classy. One intern who had had EHS problems of her own claimed that EHS patients often have problems with boundaries. This may be food for thought, but it was interesting how two people told me they interpreted this in opposite ways: "yes my wife always puts her own needs last" "yes I am always getting in trouble for pushing up against authority". There are some promising results using the redox agent luminol to treat MCS, improving neurological symptoms. But the industrial grade stuff is said to contaminated with viruses, so it won't be available unless it passes FDA or you get into a trial. Those interested in MCS will want to research the TRP family of receptors. There was a woman there with one of the Endotronic E-spion meters. It seemed impressive and well-built, and quite sensitive. She also showed me her favorite meter, which was not working because the 9V batter clasp had broken (would take 2 minutes to fix with the right parts/tools). It had no name on it and she was not sure what it was called. It had a single small analog gauge, and could accept either of two round magnetic pickups with banana plugs coming out, or a pointed electric probe on the end of a cord. Anyone know what that meter is? I would not have considered the woman an authority, had not the following occurred. I expressed interest in her meters, but she did not have them with her, but she said "I'm sure you'll get a reading on that wall over there... I felt terrible there". I inspected the wall... it was actually a retractable folding partition, and on the other side there was just another room similar to the one we were in. I considered it likely her imagination, since there was no visible trigger. The next day she brought her meters, and the Esmog-spion screamed as I brought it through a door in the partition. Closer inspection revealed an AC duct above the partition and wiring below. I did not try to figure out exactly what was going on, but clearly not her imagination. Hope this helps. Bill,
Which air filters were recommended? The drinking water while eating I have heard before but it would take a lotof water to dilute digestive juices and it wouldn't dilute HCL at all. I won't guzzle while I eat but I will take a few sips to wash down the food. Also, protein requires water for digestion. Hey Bill
I am taking the hydroxo B12 & I like it alot. I have the methyl B12 too butget more from the hydroxo.
