I just got my meter for high frequency noise on the wiring and took
some readings. They say ideally readings should be under 25 and over 50 is a problem. My readings are between 600 and 1400. It seems i might have a problem. Have other people had readings this high, is that typical? Paul |
I have readings like that at work in a concert hall backstage 400-1500+
(the meter blacks out). In my house it was up to 200. I have done a lot of work on the wiring and have filters installed and it is now around 5-20. I wonder if 600-1400 reading are than the filters can handle. The 1400 is the power strips for this computer. 600 in most walls, some as low as 200. I might need an electrician.

Yes, our (vintage 1920) house had readings this high. Our neighbor's house
(built at the same time, by the same builder, with the same floor plan) had much lower readings. We were able to achieve good results with the filters. We needed about 20 filters to do the whole job. Thanks emil and everyone. I noticed that the readings went way down at night.

If you are in a house, have an electrician install two outlets off of
where your power comes into your house, one off the A Phase and one off the B phase side. Install filters there and that will be the most efficient way of lowering the outside frequencies from your neighbor's dimmer switches, appliances, etc. Then you are left with what you are creating in the house with your equipment and other radiation radiating with the wires. Sometimes the numbers drop easily and quickly with only a few filters and in some places you'll need two power strips full of filters to get it down to 50. There are many variables. I rent my house so I don't know if I can make changes like that. I don't now what A and B phase are. Where does the power enter, is that the fuse box? There there outlets abotu sex feet away from the box, and one has a lower reading, like 200, the others have the average of around 500, but those fluctuation. Maybe I can try to do it with the 20 filters. I may move in a year so i can take the filters with me, unlike the fixed changes.
So is this wire noise often the main thing? I have also grounded my bed and office chair and keep a distance from some things in the bedroom and office. I wonder how much my food is effected in the refrigerator. I don't use the top shelf under the motor. Put filters near the breaker box to eliminate outside frequencies and
then experience with the rest of the house near the appliances. Don't sleep near the filters and I recommend turning the power off to the room where you sleep. Get a body voltage meter and test to see how much voltage is running through you in bed. Less that 50 millivolts is the goal. I had 7 volts running through me once. There may be wires running underneath your floor or in the wall that spill electrical fields over you. I recommend getting rid of the wire spring mattress and bed and sleep on a natural latex foam or organic cotton futon. good luck. Why not sleep by the filters and how do you define "near?"
If i am going to spend $600 i would like to know how much stetzer filters helped the people here on this list. Is it worth it? Like I've said before, be sure you have a gauss meter that measures
magnetic fields so when you put the filters in you can check if the magnetic fields get worse alone the wire or near your bed. If they get worse, there is a neutral wire problem which can be fixed. The harmonics are being shorted back onto the neutral wire and it'll overload the wire if not connected properly with the other neutrals. Charles Keen is the expert that taught me about this. Charles Keen EMF Services www.emfservices.com 888-840-0668 . So if there are no problems with your neutrals, put the filters so your sleeping area is as calm as possible. If you have a filter next to your head, you are going to get a magnetic field and audio frequency harmonics near you which is not good. Have them at least across the room if not down the hall. If the filters whine or make squealing sounds, they are overloaded and more need to be put on that wire to bring the "noise" down. I recommend using the Quantum Conditioners Power Strip or buy Stetzer's power strip which works well in reducing the harmonics and smooths out the waves quite well. I have outlets about 3 and 4 feet from the bed. How is that?
I have a conductive pad that is grounded. I have a foam mattress but a metal frame underneath it. Andrew McAfee <[hidden email]> wrote: Like I've said before, be sure you have a gauss meter that measures magnetic fields so when you put the filters in you can check if the magnetic fields get worse alone the wire or near your bed. I would put filters in outlets that are further than 3 or 4 feet but
that is up to you. In my measurements and advice from Charles Keen, it is better to have the conductive pad under the bed so the electrical fields are drawn to it and not you. Test the metal frame to see how much current is flowing through it by testing yourself and then touching it. I can't have any filters in my bedroom by that standard.
The purpose of the pad is to ground my body. I measure the electrical current in my body and it drops when i am on the pad. With the power off the current drops even more if i unplug the pad, so that means a very small amount of current comes in from the earth. As it turns out, I can't afford the filters right now. I also still want to hear what difference they make for everyone. I never found the stetzer power strip, only the quantum. What is the difference? The best is to have the power off when you sleep and no pad in my
opinion. Call Stetzer and they will tell you about their power strip. I don't know the difference.
