Spare One emergency phone by AT&T

So, everybody at my house all has 2G phones that won't work after December and I'm sort of biting my fingernails over this because I really, really don't want to upgrade to 3G in any way, shape or form if I can help it.  And then I ran across these just now - has anyone tried this?  It looks really low-tech (check out the 'screen' XD

...okay, it looks like it is 3G but this is as basic as you can get.

I believe that ONLY AT&T is phasing out 2G in the near future, so if Verizon, T-Mobile, etc. is acceptable for you, you could probably get a 2G phone from them.

My 2G phone is an LG100C from TracFone, and it's not being phased out.

Wow that does not look as evil as the average phone. I have had a jax obama phone w/ assurance for the longest time. I have found nothing coming off it when it is off, as you do w/ almost all cellphones. Probably because it's so old and cheap. It save my hiney when my car broke down 1/2 way across the desert and the temps were dropping and inches of blizzard were on the path. I was able to call tow and arrange for my mechanic to be there to take and get the car on the books and get an EMF free ride back from the wifi free garage.

Now that I moved to AZ I no longer can keep that phone after the end of this year nor will AZ allow me one in their state though I am way below the qualifications.

I am looking for and Emerc. phone, but the thing to consider is does this ATT&T shut off when you turn it off or is it still signaling even when dead, if so is the battery easily removable to solve that issue?  The cost is sure good, as I can not afford any plan-if I could I would not qualify for the obama phone.

I do not see a sar rating either. May or may not be a bad sign. Of course "DUH" That thing runs on AA so removal no problem, as long as there is not some little cadnium disc back up battery inside the phone- would be best to check that out well.  Then does it have a speaker so it can be used away from you-it looks like it does, but you want to check to make sure.

The final issue for the emergency phone is, it looks like it only works on the AT&T network. Much smaller coverage than verizon, but bigger than the rest. The obama phone just roams so it worked anywhere that had anything-that is part of the program. Maybe there is some way you can pay by call if out of area so it can save your hiney and only have to pay the fee if you have to use it that way. I would be interested in what else you find maybe from another carrier.  120 minutes a year are plenty-have not used that in 4 w/ the obama one. Keep us posted on what you find in your search.
