Hi everyone
This will be my last post on this subject to avoid boring you all to death with it. Thank goodness I hear you chorus! I just have one question to ask which someone might be able to answer or point me in the right direction. I have to give my surgeon a list of all of the meds [including supplements] that I am taking. I'm currently taking a multivit, an omega 3 supplement, vitamin D3, vitamin B50, Vitamin B12 and vitamin c. I was wondering should I continute to take these up to the day before surgery [nil by mouth from midnight the night before] or should I suspend taking them? What does anyone think about this? Any advice would be very much appreciated. Best wishes Steph |

I would hope that the doctors could tell you about that, as I know that some supplements interfere with clotting, anesthesia, etc. Marc |

Hi, Steph,
I personally would take most of the nutrients up to the day before surgery (acceptions follow), unless the doctor gives a clear reason not to. Itis good that you are preparing your body ahead of time; that should help you. (I personally would have added CoQ10 sublingual to your list of supplements for its anti-oxidant properties, but you have a fairly good mix, otherwise, of basic nutrients which most people would do well on.) You should avoid anything which thins the blood before surgery--the B12 and youromega 3s could do that, so I would stop these now--a week before is recommended. (Too bad, because I have found B12 really helps me at night with emfs.) You can start these again as soon after surgery as you do not have to worry about bleeding (and the other nutrients even before that), as long as your doctor doesn't supply a reason not to, tho, and you should do so as your body will appreciate the boost. Supplemental EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) in omega oils, garlic, ginger, gingko biloba, kava kava, feverfew, and vitamin E are among supplements you should not be taking due to blood thinning. (I looked this up in my Prescriptions for Nutritional Healing book--by Phyllis and James Balch--to make sure I was giving you correct info. This book also includes a list of helpful nutrients to take after surgery and if you do not have access to the book, you canask me for that if you want it.) If you don't mind saying (I think you did make mention before but I have since forgotten), what are you having surgery for? You may reply personally to me re this if you do not want to talk openly about it. I just thought I might be able to help with targeted nutrients. I did not even go for my "emergency" hysterectomy until I had prepared myself. lol I requested 2 weeks to get my affairs inorder, which mainly meant I wanted to prepare my body and mind and get a private blood supply ready--a good idea since I needed 3 pints of blood due to being extremely anemic. I will add you to my day planner for nextFriday also--will send good thoughts and pray you be protected. Bless you, dear. Thing is, I won't see the surgeon and anaesthetist until the morning of thesurgery - maybe as a precaution I should stop all until then
