Re: Titanium dental implants (plus zirconium info)

Russ
Just got done doing some research on zirconium dental implants.  There was some confusion in this thread about whether zirconium was a metal and whether it was conductive and I figured I'd share what I found in case someone else searches on "zirconium" and comes across this thread like I did.

Zirconium is indeed a metal and therefore has fairly high electronic conductivity.  However, the material used in dental implants is actually Zirconium Dioxide (also called Zirconia), which is made from Zirconium compounds but is itself a ceramic rather than a metal and therefore has very low electronic conductivity.

So, it appears "Zirconium" implants, which are really Zirconium Dioxide implants, would indeed be a good option for ES folks, certainly better than titanium or other metals.

Hope this helps someone.

Great, thanks! I hadn't done the research, but I know that some dentists
refer to these as metal-free implants.
