Questions about Faraday Cages

Patsy
Patricia (in particular) and anyone who has answers,

I know that you have not yet finished your faraday cage but I was wondering just how it should be done. Should there be a layer on the floor and all around for a complete six sides? How do you overlap the screen? Do you staple the screen together? Would pvc pipe work for corner posts, etc.? Did you find a good DIY project instructions? I only found this one couple who showed a picture of theirs on their bed but gave no instructions.

Also, I wondered about how it could have benefited you so much if you only have two sides done. Would it work that well if I have 'dirty electricity'? Is it necessary to get a metal-free bed if you build the faraday cage all around?

I saw an article about a 57 year old woman who had built a 'faraday cage' around a small bed and it just had the fabric that you can buy hanging from above and coming down by the sides and ends of the mattress. Would something like that be good enough? I would think it would have to also be on the bottom. She said she did it herself for 300 pounds. I'm not sure how much that would be in U.S. dollars then or now but an article by Mercola gave links to some hanging types like that and the cheapest was $800 plus. The drawback on that too was that if it is thick enough to keep out all the EMFs, it would keep you from getting heating and/or cooling. I didn't know if we could give links on this forum or I would have given one to the lady who built hers.

One more thing....Anyone have any idea what to tell your six year old grandson who wants to know what this wired cage is around the bed? His dad (my son) believes that anyone who claims to have multiple chemical sensitivity or Electromagnetic Sensitivity is just crazy......not just me but all the people all over the world who say they have it. And he is not a shill for the industry either. I mention that b/c I see so many ridiculous comments after any articles about ES people. It makes me almost wish it weren't so uncommon to have these problems.

Thanks for anyone who can give me advise when you have the time.

"Anyone have any idea what to tell your six year old grandson who wants to know what this wired cage is around the bed? His dad (my son) believes that anyone who claims to have multiple chemical sensitivity or Electromagnetic Sensitivity is just crazy"

For your son perhaps you could print out a little of this report written by scientists and doctors to other doctors on how to detect EMF health related illnesses in their patients:https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid=forums&srcid=MDgxODkwOTk5NjU5OTU4ODQwNTYBMDQ1ODc2OTg1MDk0NjI0NjkzOTkBaGtyRFV2MWpBUUFKATAuMQEBdjI
Dr. Johansson, who collaborated with this study, is from the prestigious Karolinska Institute of Sweden which nominates the Nobel Prize for Medicine (trying to impress your son here!). This study also has a Questionnaire for physicians to ask patients which I'm unable to attach, but I'll list some of the questions below.

My grandkids have been the easiest to convince, but their parents, who were not believers at first, now feel some effects themselves and don't say disparaging things about granny's problem.  So maybe if you can make a believer out of your son this will influence your grandson, and he'll learn about the science of metal reflecting RF.

A Faraday cage should have shielding on the bottom.  I use an Aaronia Shield canopy with the mat.  It blocks 100 MHz to 18 gigahertz range frequencies.  It's a very light, breathable material which seems to maintain the same temperature inside the 'cage' as is outside.  The only draw back is that they're expensive. http://rfsensitivesolutions.com/canopies.php

The fabric can be purchased there to sew a canopy yourself.   LessEMF might carry this fabric also - it is not the Swiss shield or Naturelle. You could just use aluminum foil as a mat under the bed, overlapping seams and extending beyond bed perimeter by about 15".

Some questions from the Europaem questionnaire for doctors to ask patients:

Check a box of 'not at all' 'a little' 'moderately' 'fairly strong' 'very strong' 'if yes, since when':

Anxiety

Disturbances of coordination
Dizziness

Assessment of EMF Exposure at Home or at Work:

To each question it is asked how long have you been using it, how much do you use it, do you notice any relation to your health problems?

1. Do you use a cell phone or smartphone at home (H) or at work (W)?

2. Do you have a cordless phone (DECT base station) at home (H) or at work (W)?
3. Do you use wireless Internet access (Wi-Fi, WiMAX, UMTS, LTE) at home (H) or at work (W)?

4. Do you use energy-efficient or compact fluorescent light bulbs in your immediate vicinity (desk
lamp, dining table lamp, reading lamp, bedside lamp) at home (H) or at work?

5. Is there a cell tower (mobile phone base station) near your home (H) or your workplace (W)? What distance?
6. Are there any power lines, transformer stations, or railroad lines near your home (H) or your
workplace (W)?
7. Do you use Bluetooth devices in your car?

RE: Re: Questions about Faraday Cages

Patsy
Thank you so much for the links and suggestions. I have printed half of the scientists' report so far and read some of it. I love the way it started off in a way to explain to people who have no knowledge of EHS at all. There is no way I could get my son to read anything like this at this point. Maybe after he realizes how bad my health already is, he might consider it. I will try to get my husband to listen to me read parts of it. He, of course, is not as big a believer as I am. Nobody can understand something like that if they can't see it and they aren't the one affected. It is a very impressive report. I'm glad you sent it to me.

I showed my husband the pictures of the canopies like you have. He said we should try the screen type like Patricia is doing until we see that it helps me. Do you have anything major that improved in your health/feelings? If I made a canopy myself, I would want to know it is the same as yours since you said it seems to maintain the same temperature inside as outside the cage. The article I read about a type similar to that one (Maybe by Mercola) said that the stronger it is to keep out EMFs, the more it might change the temperature. Could I just use the screen under the bed like the screen I would be using on other five sides OR are you meaning to use the aluminum foil if I were using the fabric canopy. I wish I could find more online about it.

How many grandkids do you have? How old are they. Mine are 5 1/2 and 3 and one on the way. I just wish the 5 1/2 year old would not have to know about this faraday cage until he is old enough to understand on his own b/c I don't want his dad to influence him in the wrong direction. The type you have wouldn't be so noticeable.

Do you have an opinion at all as to whether sleeping in a faraday cage might possible lessen my symptoms if the EMFs have already caused a brain tumor? I would think my symptoms are just ongoing effects of the dirty electricity except that it is just on one side of my head/body/face. Anyway, I look forward to trying it out even though it might be a while before we can get this done.

Thanks so much. I am glad I found this forum. So many forums are like ghost towns. Sorry this is so long.

Patsy, yes, there should be six sides with metallic
reflective material.  I do not worry about overlapping
every bit of it... I figure if I simply block most of it,
that is good enough for me.  I try to connect the
metallic elements so that they can be grounded at
one place, affecting all of the structure.  yes, i saw
that video too.  wooden posts would be good to
support metal screening... pvc would suffice for
mylar sheets.

Also, I wondered about how it could have benefited you so much if you only have two sides done. Would it work that well if I have 'dirty electricity'? Is it necessary to get a metal-free bed if you build the faraday cage all around?

I have two sides screened in.  The bottom of the bed
platform and all four sides have mylar.  i have two
layers of metal between me and the sky.  what i have
so far has already made a huge difference in my
vulnerability to cramps and headaches.

I saw an article about a 57 year old woman who had built a 'faraday cage' around a small bed and it just had the fabric that you can buy hanging from above and coming down by the sides and ends of the mattress. Would something like that be good enough?

that probably depends on your situation.  if she has
nothing but earth below her room, then i'd think she
doesn't need metal under her bed, but if she is in an
apartment with other units under hers, then she'd
need something below.  i don't have anything below
me, but i thought it was a good idea to put a couple
of layers of mylar between the layers of the platform
anyway... $2 for two mylar blankets.  :)  no big deal.

She said she did it herself for 300 pounds. I'm not sure how much that would be in U.S. dollars then or now but an article by Mercola gave links to some hanging types like that and the cheapest was $800 plus.

i believe that currently, an english pound is worth
approximately a dollar.

thickness is not the issue, from what i understand.
metal interrupts the wave... from what i understand.
you can use links here, i believe.

show them scientific studies.  europe has some studies.
and don't let others' ignorance worry you.  a child may
understand more readily than an adult that there are
vibrations in the air that need to be interrupted with
metal protection.  i just tell people, "I'm kinda 'allergic'
to electricity."  that seems to suffice.

good luck with all this.  keep it simple.  i eat no sugar,
no white flour, no white salt, drink no alcohol, etc.
diet is important... lloyd burrell of electrosense wrote
a book about recovering from ES.  i eat very cleanly,
simply, and drink lots of water.  one of my roommates
is an IT expert at a university and i couldn't understand
how he could survive all the EMR but he drinks LOTS
of water... and water is another element, other than
metal, that disrupts EMR.

RE: Re: Questions about Faraday Cages

Patsy
Thank you very much for your help, Patricia.

My husband found aluminum screening 48 inches wide at Lowe's and that width makes it a bit easier for the twin bed we have. Yes, I am on a second floor or third if you count the basement. I'm sure the bottom section will be necessary. This screen has a little bit of a smell and I think I will need to air it out before sleeping near it. (I have MCS).

Are you saying this needs to be grounded? I haven't read much about that subject. I did see a video of an 'expert' showing what he thought of the non/necessity of grounding but he was using chicken wire (big holes) and that caused me to pay no attention to his opinion. The commenters seemed to know more about that than he did.

Do I need to get a metal free bed? I read just tonight that the faraday cage would not work if you still had the metal in your bed.

I like the 'kinda allergic to electricity' idea. I can give more in-depth explanation if they want to hear it.

I hardly ever eat sugar. I stopped that so long ago that anything sweet makes me gag. My husband made some granola bars that called for honey and brown sugar. I insisted he leave out the brown sugar. He did and they worked just fine. I have only had 2 or 3 tiny bites of that. We do eat sea salt. I also avoid white flour. I don't drink and the tinctures that I make with vodka....I pour hot water on them and let them set for a while so it evaporates.

I am really hoping the faraday cage works. It won't be right away that we get it going. Thank you for advise.

Would something like that be good enough?

yes.

I would think it would have to also be on the bottom.

that probably depends on your situation.  if she has
nothing but earth below her room, then i'd think she
doesn't need metal under her bed, but if she is in an
apartment with other units under hers, then she'd
need something below.  i don't have anything below
me, but i thought it was a good idea to put a couple
of layers of mylar between the layers of the platform

The drawback on that too was that if it is thick enough to keep out all the EMFs, it would keep you from getting heating and/or cooling. I didn't know if we could give links on this forum or I would have given one to the lady who built hers.

thickness is not the issue, from what i understand.
metal interrupts the wave... from what i understand.
you can use links here, i believe.

It makes me almost wish it weren't so uncommon to have these problems.

show them scientific studies.  europe has some studies.
and don't let others' ignorance worry you.  a child may
understand more readily than an adult that there are
vibrations in the air that need to be interrupted with
metal protection.  i just tell people, "I'm kinda 'allergic'
to electricity."  that seems to suffice.

good luck with all this.  keep it simple.  i eat no sugar,
no white flour, no white salt, drink no alcohol, etc.
diet is important... lloyd burrell of electrosense wrote
a book about recovering from ES.  i eat very cleanly,
simply, and drink lots of water.  one of my roommates
is an IT expert at a university and i couldn't understand
how he could survive all the EMR but he drinks LOTS
of water... and water is another element, other than
metal, that disrupts EMR.

love, patricia

Thanks for anyone who can give me advise when you have the time.
