Does anyone have updated information on EMF, electric interference with pacemakers? What I have seen so far: (besides "still being studied") Poor electrical wiring and strong power tools? could interfere. Keep distance from Microwave...mixed comments The 17 yr old who gave presentation to Heart Rythm group showing Ipod/Pacemaker problem What do you know about Wireless Internet and pacemakers? My fragile, elderly Mom is getting a pacemaker today. At the same time I hear this, my brother, visiting from the next state, cheerfully announces he's had Wireless installed in her house. (So he can be there more while stillworking). I am 3,000 miles away, with ME/CFS,Esens, CI, etc. and and escalating Cardiac problem myself. I am on an emotional roller coaster re: her several recent rushes to ICU, decisions made without my input, plus financial limitations...in other words, disturbingly powerless at this present moment. This wireless already will make it more difficult for me to be there, addedto other environmental stuff. But what effect will it have on her...pacemaker specifically? I'd appreciate any informed feedback. The most credible, professional or medical source would also really be great. Even bringing this up will be a bomb to at least one of my bros...the one playing Boss and installing the wireless. I'm in the absurd position of losing more contact just by bringing up risk questions. How far away would power tools need to be? How does one know if electrical wiring is faulty? Thanks, Katrina |
Pacemakers may react to magnetic fields.
Coaches may have hydraulic or magnetic brake systems. It is known, that people with a pacemaker, sitting in the back of a bus with a magnetic brake system may experience troubles, when the brakes are applied. So people with a pacemaker should stay in the front of those coaches. Also, when people are close to someone with a mobile phone, and this persons is just listening and not speaking, that monile phone may go over to energy-save mode, and a pulsrate of 2 Hz is stated. The pacemaker may then think, *oh, a puls is just given, so I don't have to give a pulse*, and then the 911 has to be called. PUK - The fact is that with any electronic device the manufactureres will never fully be able to asses how it will work/interact on an EMR front in a real world working situation, to many variables/anomolies. With pacemakers/hearing aids and other electronic prostetics we need a similar database as george carlos, else how can we really assess the true impact and ward off the catchall of well why are those with pacemakers not all dropping like flies ! Hello Katrina
Have just read your post and had to reply. I don't know much about pacemakers and hope that others on this site who are well informed will be able to help you with this situation. I have ME and am ES and have just spent the weekend at my parents home at agathering of my extended family. As more of them [and their various wireless devices] arrived my symptoms started to go off the scale and I couldn't work out what was happening. I counted up that at one point I was in close proximity to 3 cell phones and 2 blackberries - when ordinarily I try to stay as far away as possible from that technology. I thought of asking them to switch them off but couldn't bear the backlash - the fact that I don't have a cell phone makes me a subject of ridicule as it is. They all went homeyesterday afternoon. By the time I got up this morning my symptoms had completely subsided. Is it just a coincidence? If sympathy helps you have mine by the bucket load Best wishes Dara --- On Fri, 8/22/08, kattemayo <[hidden email]> wrote: From: kattemayo <[hidden email]> Subject: [eSens] Pacemakers To: [hidden email] Date: Friday, August 22, 2008, 12:19 PM Does anyone have updated information on EMF, electric interference with pacemakers?
