Mice

James

Hi Marc,

Evidently, Windows 10 doesn’t support mechanical mice.  Also, I’m told that Microsoft doesn’t make them anymore.  I bought a Logitech trackball.  It was ok for a day or two, but then caused as much tingling and pain as the optical mouse, so I switched back.

Also, James, you mentioned that you were using a corded optical mouse?

There have been a lot of people who say that a corded mechanical mouse (the old "ball" mice from the 1990s) are better for people with ES.  I've never found an optical mouse that was a benign as the Microsoft Intellimouse mice that I get on eBay.

I haven't heard anything about Windows 10 not supporting mechanical mice, and I don't why that would be... mine work just fine in Windows 7.

Also, while they don't make mechanical mice anymore, they are very easy to find (and cheap) on eBay.

Certainly worth seeking out in order to reduce/eliminate symptoms.

i've thought about this issue. in the library they have optical mouse.
there might be possible to open up the optical mouse and put some kind of shielding inside or maybe on top of the mouse?

Hi Hawk,

Thank you for your comment.  I’ve taken two steps:

1.    I use the mouse only with my left hand.  (The symptoms had formerly been only in my right arm.  Now, the left arm has started to tingle as well, though even now only the right arm aches.)

2.    I’ve coated the mouse in aluminum foil, shiny side down.

The net effect is reduced symptoms.  I’d be interested in any comments or interpretations regarding these steps.

The problems with corded mice as well as corded keyboards are another chapter.

It has to do whether the cable is shielded or not.

If the cable is shielded, the radiation can not escape underway, and comes out at the end, the mouse or keyboard.

If the cable is not shielded, the radiation can escape on the way, and causes much less *trouble*.

Many persons refuse to look at my http://www.milieuziektes.nl/Pagina600.html
The images explain a lot.
A simple double layer of sticky aluminium strip at the beginning of each cable can help a lot.
The same goes for all electrical cables, where the strip is place just behind the plug.

My keyboard has a ferite bead incased in in the cable.  I wonder what effect that would have on the mouse.  First windows after 7 is horrid. That's why all the techs are still using 7. If you are on 7 stay there, until you can see from the reviews that a later version is not getting more complaints than praise. Maybe you can go back to 7?   If the newer windows are like apple, I think probably not, then you would have to replace the HD or professionally erase it to go back. As far as I know windows would not require that, as the OS would allow reformat.

I tried a P2 ball mouse on my Mac, but none of them come w/ a driver and so had to return, as they could not work.
