Metal conduit - yes or no?

Marc Martin

Hi all,

Someone on our Facebook-equivalent group is considering rewiring their home, and was wondering if metal conduit was a good idea or not.  Seems to me it *could* be good (increasing the shielding around the wires) or bad (acting as an antenna for ambient EMF or causing reflections from the wiring it encases).  Any opinions/experience?

Thanks,
Marc

Hi Marc ~ I've learned so much from the eiwellspring.org website.  It has a section on low EMF wiring that might be helpful:   http://www.eiwellspring.org/choosinghouseholdwiring.pdf

ps.  I would love to have metal conduit instead of plastic romex wiring anyday!

The metal works like an antenna, and picks up many signals.

I have measured that on special shielded cables, where the outside picked up many GSM signals and transmitted them further.
After the outside metal was grounded, thet problem did not occur.

Found this yesterday.  May be better than a passing comment from a professor I can not ever speak with again.   This guy here explains why it works and when it does not work.  Hope this will clarify the whole issue:
