LED's

Paresh
I'm looking for an LED desk lamp. I found these: http://www.lampsplus.com/Products/Desk-Lamps/Style_Contemporary/Type_LED/.
Any other sources you know of? Thanks.

Re: LED's

It is not clear where those lamps are manufactured.
In China ??

I have had one similar to the Oil Rubbed Bronze Slim Tube LED Piano Desk
Lamp
. On the box it said 30.000 Hours, but after two months e few LEDs went
donw.
A replacement got the same after two Months.
And they only worked in the evening.

Can't comment on that one, but do watch out; my dad brought home an LED lamp from Home Depot last night, marketed as a portable, adjustable lamp; it fit in a small halogen type fixture.

It had a dimmer switch on the cord, which I thought would be trouble. We plugged it in.  It had a magnetic field of about 2 milligauss nearly a foot away, and it made tons of distinct radio frequency noise on the AM Radio over two feet away, regardless of if the dimmer switch was on low, high, or in between.

Hunk of crap.

Oh - and the tint was absolutely hideous, one of those "multi-bulb" ones with lots of weak, single LED in a pattern of circles.  The color was a horrible, blue-ish, cold, eye straining, cold "white".  Awful to look at, and bad electrically.

We didn't take apart the bulb itself, but there may've been bad parts in it, too.

Good luck!

I see that one of them is rechargeable. The others I assume plug in to AC.
You don't want any of those that plug in. They will have power supplies and
all power supplies are now switch-mode. If there are some with wall-wart
style power supplies, you can buy one and hopefully for
under $20 buy a linear regulated supply that matches from Jameco.

If your house is on DC power then of course you can bypass the
power supply and these would probably be great. But there could
still be a big problem in some cases because even some car
LEDs (the brightest ones mainly I think) have built in regulators.
It's much safer to get a regular lamp and try upgrading to an LED
bulb. Or 120V halogen lamp with no dimmer (a hi/lo switch may be
OK if used mainly on hi).
