HI ALL -
Just changed my ageing fridge pre 90s to a new energy efficient model. I was never bothered about the old, but the new one seems to increase my tinitus even from 3m away and gives me burning ears/tingling head when I am anywhere near it. What is it with these newer appliances ? Is it microchip controlled/more electronics or what or just the frequency of the motor/compressor - ANYWAY MY OLD ONE WILL BE BACK IN PLACE BY TONIGHT !! Its worrying for us ES when you think how you might cope in future years surviving on delipdated old appliances, but I am sure we will find a way as usual. Perhaps there is another model/brand that it new that would work out for you? I know that I recently got a brand new car and it does not bother me -- I made sure however that it didn't have an LCD screen built into the dashboard! Also, I noticed that my new high-definition cable box bothered me on the first day, but I haven't noticed it since. (of course, I do use EMF protection devices, and I'm much less sensitive than I used to be) Marc |

The same thing happened to me,
when we bought a new Energy efficient hot water heater, (for the new house,) I could feel/hear it, very very bad, from way across the house. I blame "more electronics and microchips". Fortunately, they still make normal 220V water heaters and 120V refrigerators. Stewart [hidden email] wrote: > HI ALL - > > Just changed my ageing fridge pre 90s to a new energy efficient model. To anyone interested -
So I got my old fridge back and in doing so I tested both the new one and the old one with a Trifeild meter. The new fridge seemed initially to have a lower EMF, similar Efeilds. But I realised that the old fridge was working hard to come up to a stable temp, but also realised that the new fridge caused the neeedle on the Trifeild to waver considerably whereas in the old fridge the needlle stayed relatively stable. So are we dealing with the effects of spikey/chopped up electricity here in the new fridge and is that what is causing the extreme irittation to me with the new fridge a sort of erratice pulsing effect ?! Perhaps Shivani or Charles would like to comment. Paul UK [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |

Does the "new fridge" have any special features / marketing buzzwords that we should try to avoid? Marc |

Marc Not really, just the Eurpoean blurb about low energy on front. its a Zanussi so there must be the "appliance of science" [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |

Some electrical appliances do emit VLF, in the region from 5 kHz to 150 kHz,
mostly around 30 kHz. For these signals, electrosensibles may be very perceptive. Mostly it is the *fuzzy logic*, with others it may be the clock. Also clocks on ovens, furnaces, thermostats, etc may emit these signals. I found that the new Xbox360 is a very strong emitter of those signals. But on most fridges, it is the magnetic fields, that do the most damage. I've lived in many one room apartments with a fridge. The noise bothers me as well as emf. I talked to a repairman and he said new ones will be quieter but eventually the parts begin to wear out & start up is noisier as well as operation. Not the same as emf exactly but maybe related...
