Electric Lights

Katrina
I have increasing intolerance to all lights. (The electricity, besides phototobia?) So, I am sitting in a dim room, with only lighting from another room. I am sick of this.

What do you guys use for lighting? I really need to have more light, without buzzing, burning, of brain and skin.

Is it electricity alone, or the type of materials...metals, treatments, etc. I know in some cases, it is the heat, which I cannot stand from anywhere.

And...my covered flourescent in kitchen seems the only flourescent on the planet I can tolerate (for awhile). Why would that be?

I use full-spectrum incandescent lighting through
my house. I buy them at local health food stores.

However, if you're so sensitive that you are reacting
to TV remote controls, incandescent lighting, and irons,
I think you really should be focusing on changing your
diet or supplementation. I don't know what it is you're
eating/taking right or if you are using any EMF protection
devices, but if you're getting worse, something in your
daily routine needs changing.

I was able to solve this problem for myself. But the solution is
kind of expensive. I don't know if you can do it on the cheap. But I
used graham-stetzer filters. I plugged them into an outlet that is
on the same circuit that powers the lights in the room where I
couldn't stand to have the lights on. They are about 30 bucks
apiece. You will get best results if you use about 20 of them in
your house which makes it really expensive. I don't know how well it
would work if you used on 3 or 4. But if you have the money that
could solve your problems. I also plugged in a quantum pro which
really made a difference in how I felt inside my house with the
electricity on. But again, it was about 400 dollars. I plugged it
into the same circuitry line that most of my equipment and receivers
are on.

A less expensive solution which might help would be to buy
one or more Quantum Minimax's, which cost US$20 each. However,
these only work for 110v/60hz power (used in the US and elsewhere).
You could buy one and see if it helps. If it does, but not
enough, you could then buy another (or more).

Here is a link to where you can buy a Quantum Minimax:

There is no photo, but it looks just like a regular 3-outlet
outlet expander.

working upon the wiring in the walls or affecting anything other than
the appliances that are plugged into it. Isn't it much the same as a
power strip that filters EMF and RFI. My understanding is that these
do nothing to the electricity before it reaches the power strip. Am
I incorrect? Does a power strip on one outlet affect the appliances
on another outlet? The quantum pro is said to do this. I think it
affects all the outlets on an entire side of the breaker box. There
are two hot wires that come in. I can't visualize how it affects any
of the outlets on the other hotwire. I'm not an electrician though
so I am only guessing here. Someone please explain this to me if I
am wrong. However, I have seen some new electrical wall outlets at
Lowes that are supposed to filter out RFI and EMF noise. You would
think that whatever electricity passes through them and then goes to
another electrical outlet would also be filtered.

My understanding is that the Quantum power strip and the Minimax
affect everything on the circuit to some degree, and everything
in the house to a lesser degree. That is, the effect is propagated
both backwards and forwards on the line. They are not nearly as
powerful as the Quantum Pro, but I think they affect more than
just what's plugged into them.

I've been told by dealers that they mostly affect things in a
7 foot radius, and the effect dies down the further away
you get.

BTW, at work, I don't have anything plugged into my Quantum
power strip, and it obviously makes a difference when used
that way. I can control the degree of the effect by using
outlets that are more lightly or more heavily loaded, or by
moving them to outlets that are closer/further away from me.
That is, they have a stronger effect if plugged in next to
something that is using a lot of electricity, or if they
are plugged in close to you.

I'm not sure if you'll get this type of response from the
company that makes them, however. These are simply my
observations after having used these for 4 years. When
I told a dealer that my whole house seemed different
from simply using two power strips, his response was,
"You must be very sensitive". Duh. :-)

One comment on this -- the Powerstrip and "MiniMax" sold
by Quantum Products look exactly like items sold in
my local hardware store. I even found the exact same
model in my local True Value hardware store and bought
one. The one from the hardware store said that it had
an RFI/EMI filter built into it. However, when I tried
this, I got the same adverse reaction (agitation) that
I got from the Stetzer filters. The one I got from
Quantum products however gave no such adverse reaction,
and provided noticeable benefits over using nothing
at all.

I think Quantum Products just takes these standard
Power Sentry/Fiskars products and exposes them to a
certain type of magnetic field which alters what
affect they have on the electricity.

Re: Quantum Minimax

Hello Marc,

I find it a bit diificult to find the websites of Quantum Products.
It seems that several sites sell those products.

As far as I could see, is the Minimax only available for 110 Volt.
But on http://quantumqrt.com/cat.cgi?s=ElectroClear they sell the
ElectroClear, which is apparantly available for 200 V, but twice the price
of the Minimax.
Is this ElectroClear comparable with the Minimax?

Also, the powerstrip is only for 110 V.

On Sarurday I measured in a big house with the Stezeriser meter in one
wallplug 100; after a Stetzer filter 50.
Then another one 250; after the filter 60.
And finally where they had used very expensive shielded cables: 1250 GS
units. After filter 100.

So the shielded cables in the walls hold back the electrical fields, but
spit them out on the wall sockets!

I found in mu own house, that placing a Stetzer filter in the wallsocket
does bring a relief in the outgoing mains, but the signals in the normal
cables in the wall about 40 cm from the wallsocket are raised.
So I am pondering a lot about that.
I still find it a disadvantage, that the Stezterfilters do not have a
grounding pin, like the european plugs, according the german and the
belgian/french plugs.

The official site for Quantum Products is:

http://quantumproducts.com/

> As far as I could see, is the Minimax only available for 110 Volt.

Yes, that's correct. The Quantum Minimax and Power strips only
are sold for 110 volts/60 hz. The only things they have which work
for 220 volts are the Quantum Home, Quantum Pro, etc. These
use 110v->12v transformers, and they say that they can also
use 220v->12v transformers.

The ElectroClear does not make me feel the same as a Minimax. The
ElectroClear has a rather "oppressive" energy to it, and it makes
me feel bad rather quickly. I don't know if this is a detox
reaction or if it is simply "bad energy". I also think the
ElectroClear is a lot stronger overall than the Quantum Minimax
or the Quantum Power Strip.

QuantumQRT.com is a different company than QuantumProducts.com,
but the technology seems similar. The person who runs QuantumQRT.com
(Bill Stierhout) used to be the sales person for Quantum Products
in the 1990's, but back then the company was called "Global
Coherence". The inventor of this technology (Mark Barlettani)
is at QuantumProducts.com.

That is, if you email either of these sites, you will

Charles, you mention several cases where the Stetzer filters are
lowering the reading on the Stetzerizer meter, but you have not
mentioned if the occupants are feeling any better as a result
of this. Does your wife notice any difference from the Stetzer
filters?

Re: Stetzer results

Hello Marc,

The feeling of my wife is subjectif.

First of all, I would like measuring (as far as I am able to) the
differences.
And I would like answers to several questions, which I pose myself.
Only when I have figured out what is going on, my most sensible meter, to
which I am married to, will be exposed and asked about.
otherwise it does not make much sense.

As I mentioned before, as I measured signals (5 kHz-150 kHz) only when I
placed the sensor right on top of the display of a cord-telephone, my wife
was disturbed at 2 meters away, where I could not measure any of those
signals.
Of course my meters are not that strong and sofisticated, but it is
remarkable.
It is a good example of how sensitive electrosensible people can be.

When I install my stetzer filters I usually have my stetzer meter
plugged into an outlet that is on the same circuit but comes after the
outlet I am plugging it into. Sometimes the meter reading doesn't
change at all and sometimes it even goes up by a value of one or two
points or so. I do not plug in a stetzer filter into an outlet when
that is the result. I have read on a website about these filters that
you have to be careful when installing them because they can actually
make the problem worse if not installed correctly. I only install
them in outlets when I see that there is a beneficial result. And I
also install them on every single powerstip that I have.

If you aren't bothered by the smell of lamp oil, an Aladdin lamp might
be a useful alternative for you, as far as table lamps. They give the
light of a 60 watt bulb, no electricity though. Or if you live in
your own home, propane lamps can be installed as well. Not quite as
bright, but you can read by them in the evenings.

Marc,

I am on extensive protocol from Paul Cheney, who treats CFS/ME. We are addressing cardiomyopathy, heavy metal detox, immune system, much more with many supplements.

Which ones do you have in mind?

Also, what dietary things would help?

Does anyone know good website to order the Incandesent lights?

I do want to try the gadgets, but may have to start cheap.

What other changes in daily routine?

Thanks,

Katrina

Marc,

So, it's meant for plugging things in, but you don't? Did you get the reactions you've described when plugging it in?

Thanks for the picture. But how do you order it, if not on the site?

Aother really dumb question. Is 110 all we need, (in US). I cannot remember this.

Also, how does my (standard) surge protecter, with several thing plugged into it, play into all this?

Thanks!!

Re: Electric Lights

> So, it's meant for plugging things in, but you don't?
> Did you get the reactions you've described when plugging it in?

Yes, the Quantum Products seem to work by simply being
being turned on and being near a source of EMF. So if
if a power strip is plugged into a circuit that it
using a lot of power, then all of the power on that
circuit is going to be affected to some degree. The
effect is the strongest when it's closest to the source
of the problem, so sometimes the power strip works
better because it has a 6-foot cord, so you can move
it around (e.g., I sometimes place it right next
to my computer monitor). But you should be able
to do this on-the-cheap by plugging a MiniMax into
an extension cord or power strip.

In the early days of my recovery, I needed the
stronger devices from Quantum Products, but these
days I get by fine with the weaker ones. And also
with nothing plugged into them. Basically I'm
trying to keep everything in balance, as too much
Quantum Products is just as bad as too little (in
terms of feeling bad).

> Thanks for the picture. But how do you order it, if not on the site?

It's on this site, buried in the "Stress-relief Products":

http://www.natural-stress-reduction.com/

> Aother really dumb question. Is 110 all we need, (in US). I cannot remember this.

Yes, these work for US power.

> Also, how does my (standard) surge protecter, with several
> thing plugged into it, play into all this?

The Minimax will work best if its close to the power flowing
into your stuff. So if you have a free outlet on your surge
protector, plug it into that. Or you can plug it into the
wall onto the same outlet that the power strip is plugged
into. The general rule-of-thumb is to keep it within
7 feet of the appliance or the power flowing into the
appliance.

And unlike a lot of EMF protection products, if you
feel that it is too strong at first, you can stop
the effect altogether by unplugging it. With other
devices, you sometimes need to get them out of the
house, because there is no way to turn them off.

And you certainly can plug 3 items into the Minimax if you
want to -- I just do a lot of experimentation, so having
nothing plugged into it allows me to easily move it from one
room to another, take it on trips, unplug it if I think
the effect is too strong, etc.

I just looked up Paul Cheney, and found some of his philosophies:

http://www.immunesupport.com/library/showarticle.cfm/ID/3157

Here I see lots of prescription medications for
various conditions. Again, I never found prescriptions to
help... they often made things worse, not better. So if
you are also getting worse, you might consider whether or
not its time to change doctors (I changed doctors over
10 times).

> Which ones do you have in mind?
> Also, what dietary things would help?

I'd suggest supplements which are food-derived, not synthetically
created in a lab. If your doctor prescribes supplements from
Standard Process or Biotics Research, then I'd say you're
probably okay.

Also, I wouldn't be spending too much effort on heavy metal
chelation if you have a problem with worsening ES. Or any
efforts on this should improve your ES, not worsen it.

As for foods, I'd say that in general that organic is better
than commercial, and raw is better than cooked. Vegetable
juicing is also useful for hydration and ensuring absorbtion
of minerals and antioxidants. But you have to find foods
that you aren't allergic to, which may limit things.

For me, I've spent years eating things like avocados, apples,
bananas, prunes, almonds, carrot/ginger juice, black beans
and rice, curry, oatmeal, quinoa, olive oil. They've
served me quite well, but I realize that everyone has their
own deficiencies which need working on.

> Does anyone know good website to order the Incandesent lights?

There are a couple brands I buy, depending on whether its a
regular light or a canned flood light. One of the brand
is "Blues Busters"
But again, I usually just buy these locally.

like that.

Marc,
Thanks for suggestions...I am doing them all...
well..more erratically than I'd like, so thanks for the reminder.

About Dr. Cheney...excuse me, but that was funny. There are not "lots of medications" there, and some are tiny doses...2 DROPS, a quarter tab, for instance. Also, the article is over 4 years old. As for "various conditions", that's pretty much the definition of CFS/CFIDS/ME, especially after 20 years. Yes, he uses Standard Process, etc.

As for
>>>>if
> you are also getting worse, you might consider whether or
> not its time to change doctors (I changed doctors over
> 10 times).<<<<<

I passed 10 about 15 years ago. I am a new patient of Dr. Cheney's and he is world renowned. I have wished to see him for 15 years, believing he may be the only on the face of the Earth to know what to do with me. $$ has been the block.

In April, I was on the edge of Organ Failure, plus more, with no Dr. addressing it.
This is quite usual in late ME/CFS. I also have Lactate Spikes in my brain, muscle and nerve damage, etc.
On Dr. Cheney's Protocol, I have returned from the edge of Death. But still very ill...
You don't seem familiar with ME/CFS. It is a devestating Neurological Disease...once known as "Atypical Polio".
It is Progressive. We are trying to stop that.

One expert recently said

It is a Nightmare of Extraordinary dimensions

...something like that.

I am just better enough to address that I am sitting in a very dim room!

I am lucky to alive at all, or even discern that EMFs cause reactions.

I only meant to ask about the E question here, not being afraid of sounding stupid. I have been occupied with the other 100 things that CFIDS causes!! and Advocacy/Activism.

Not sure if I'm right now getting worse...just addressing it.

Thanks for info,

Katrina
