Computer Modem

It appears that the subject of computer modems has not come up for several years on this list and therefore the information is somewhat outdated since there was a transition from Doc Sys 2.0 to Doc Sys 3.0.  The modems recommended in these past conversations were Doc Sys 2.0.  

I am stuck with Comcast - I decided to bundle my phone with them because it was cheaper than paying Qwest for a landline account.  The down side of having a landline through Comcast is that when the modem or the power goes down, so does the phone whereas with Qwest, the actual power line itself has to go down.  

My Aris Surfboard SB6141 Ethernet Modem did not have a phone jack, so without even asking me what I wanted, as they do to everyone, they quickly installed a wireless modem.  When I saw that I immediately got out my meter and measured the wireless modem they installed and showed them it was through the roof.  I said I did not want that garbage in my house and to get me an Ethernet modem.  They said they didn't have them anymore.  I insisted.  They went down to their truck and dug around and came back with an ethernet modem ARIS TM822 with a phone jack.  I told them to be absolutely sure it had no Wi-Fi capability.  I don't see any indication that it does, but after using it for a year, I am now getting actual radiation burns and big red welts on my face and cracking and bleeding. I suspect there is something in the modem, either Wi-Fi or dirty electricity related.  I have to get rid of it, but I need to know what the best ethernet modem, without Wi-Fi capability is, that is Doc Sys 3.0 and has a phone jack.  Someone told me that most Comcast Modems have a built in Wi-Fi feature that cannot be controlled by the customer.

Please can anyone help me with this because my time in front of the computer is very limited until I can resolve this.

If having the phone jack on the modem is an issue with dirty electricity or exposure, I could easily go back to Qwest with my old  Aris Surfboard SB6141 Ethernet Modem.

At any rate, I consider the Comcast modem a piece of garbage and it has to go.  That, and the monthly fee is a rip off.  

Any suggestions on who I could change my computer and TV account to in Seattle besides Comcast Xfinity? This company is evil.

I forgot to mention the speed of the Modem Comcast provided me, the Arris TM822.

There is a newer version, the TM1602.  The Arris TM822 bonds to 8 downstream channels.  The 1602 bonds to 16 channels which means it is capable of twice the download-upload speed of the TM822.  

The TM822 will do 200 Mbps, the TM1602 will do 400 Mbps.  But other than that they are the same modem.*

Arris is being sued over the TM1602 and it is no longer supported by Arris supposedly.

In addition, the buyer should be careful where you buy your modem.  At least one Amazon vendor is selling modems that belong to a cable company, which is recognizable via the MAC address.  I assume this means that the modems have high miles on them, or could have Wi-Fi or who knows what inside.

For what it's worth, I'm still using a DOCSYS 2.0 modem on Comcast in Seattle.  Single channel, max download speed = 34 Mbps.  And that's the download speed I'm getting, so I'm obviously being limited by the modem, not the plan.

I am planning on trying out some newer modems to see if they are tolerable for me.  The one I have now is perfectly fine, although it is technically obsolete and also does not have a phone jack (but I have no need for that).

Oh, and superdrove, I take it from your original post that you find the Aris Surfboard SB6141 (without phone jack) to be tolerable?  If so, I may try that out, as it is cheap and DOCSYS 3.0.

I can't guaranatee that the Aris SB6141 Doc Sys 3.O with no phone jack, is any safer than anything else.  But it seems to be better than the Aris TM822 that comcast provided, but as I said, I think the comcast modem may have a wireless component.  I am having someone come over this week to test both of them.  I will let you know then what i find out.

Could also be that the 30 smart meters in my building are contaminating the wires causing these devices to put out electro pollution.

Okay, thanks... I will try it out, as I probably should upgrade from my DOCSYS 2.0 modem,
as who knows how long these things will continue to work?

On it, you can enter your zip code, the speed of your internet connection, and that you need a phone jack, and it will list you all of the current compatible modems that work with Xfinity.  I put in 150 Mbps, and saw about 5 cable modems that did not appear to have wi-fi built-in.

I had this modem tested and it does not have any Wi-Fi or wireless capability so my reaction has got to be from something else.

But it could still be the modem that you are reacting to.  I've reacted to plenty of modems
that didn't have wi-fi.  Although it could still be something external to the modem -- the
power supply, a ground loop between the cable companies coax cable and your electrical
system, too high of a signal in the cable companies coax cable, leaking signals from the
cable companies coax cable, leaking signals from your ethernet cables, etc.

Also, if this computer modem has a phone jack, how are you using that exactly?  Are you just plugging a phone straight into it?  Or are you plugging it into your house's phone wiring?  Because if you're plugging it into your house's phone wiring, that's yet another potential ground loop or added interference.
