Hmmm, I can't recall ever being bothered by Christmas lights... (although we're
still using the incandescent kind)

The led ones really bother me, and some flicker, distance does help.

I noticed last year, and even now that I don't like them -regular ones, on for extended periods anymore though, because they do seem to create some tension in my body.

Re: Christmas - A Special Peril for The EHS

I tested some LED ones and they did make a little buzz
on the AM radio.  And I can see them flicker.  Theoretically
they could use just rectifiers as some LED lightbulbs do, but
then you could not use the same design for different lengths
of light strings.

The power is pretty low (unless you have a zillion LEDs)
so it might not be too hard to filter them.

If the incandescent ones affect you a filter to keep RF
out of the lighting might help.  Or maybe there's a
corroded contact in there making dirty power.  Or
maybe you have a net current wiring error.  Not
to say incandesants  are impossible to react to...

My husband just bought some led for the outside. Would the emf reach inside the house?

Hi Marc,

I am not bothered by our personal lights, but it seems that emfs are stronger here during Christmas, especially between 6pm and 11pm.

xmas lights such as cheap rope lights set on flash/shuffle mode can  put
out serious LF dirty power into the mains allround plus dirty air as charles
describes.

As I recall, "old-technology" had a single bulb that you put into the string that
made the rest of the lights turn on & off.  That seemed harmless enough.  However,
I have no idea how what the new technology is for this.  I've seen some strings
that have "programming modes", which might be bad.

We've currently got strings of incandescent lights that only turn on & off once
per day.  These don't seem to be a problem for me at all.

Thanks Marc, that's what I have right now but we are buying some new lights so we'll see.
