Cheap dirty electricity meter on ebay

cris_aov
Hey everyone, I just wanted to make everyone aware of very nice cheap dirtyelectricity meter I found, I have a couple of these as well as their more high end model, and these are definitely better than the 100 dollar stetzirizer filter, they not only give you a reading but also let you hear some ofthe dirty electricity with its built in speaker.

Hello,

I ordered one, but my Paypal payment was reimbursed, because this seller
refuses to send international.

That is not so good.

I ordered one and received it already. Oddly enough, when I plug it
in, I not only hear the static, but I also hear a local AM radio station
on it loud & clear!

Me too... do you know the frequency of the local station?
I think mine is 810kHz. I sometimes hear other stations.

I haven't figured out yet if it's just the AM radio waves coupling through
above ground power lines, or if the wiring to the socket
within the house is acting like an antenna. If the wires are twisted or
shielded the latter should not happen... and if it is the latter it's not
very important since you are getting hit by the AM waves through the air
anyhow (unless you have shielded walls). At my house the different outlets
have different readings, which makes me think it's not the power lines...
but I will try some other experiments....

Puk replies - I think as for the twisted wire and sheilding thats all well
and good but if you have a weakness in the system such as a metal light
switch or siwtches and out lest ingeneral with stuff plugged in especially
metal lamps etc of evan large metal bed frames these will re-radiate the
signals in the wires, so you need to be wary of this. As for the AM waves in
the air, perhaps we coould use an analogy here, imagine hot sunny day, great
in the shade to find shelter from the suns heat, but if you step into a
greaan house you get a concentrated effect is a very small space, Iwould say
that you have this when you are in a small house with RF noisy wiring, The
AM waves in the air from radio station broadcasts would be a lot less
powerful more diluted than those in the house, in fact you are then getting both
as opposed to one or the other.

Puk replies - is that cos the unit is bassically an AM radio tuner slightly
modified ?

My VLF Detektor has two positions:
1. from 5 kHz to 30 kHz
2. from 30 kHz to 150 kHz

Depending on location I sometimes hear also AM Radio in position 2.

I'm picking up 1250 WMTR. It seems like
the signal is strongest near the fuse panel.

My home-made bypass capacitor silences it. So
it's very affective above 1 M Hz, higher than
the advertised bandwidth of the Stetzer models.

It's less than $10 in parts: Panasonic 20 uF
capacitor JSU18X206AQD, with 1 ohm series resistor,
plus a 27K ohm bleed resistor.
