Cable Modem

Susan
Does anyone have experience with this cable modem.  It
doesn't seem to have Wifi capability and says its compatible
with Comcast.  Just want to make sure before I buy it on Amazon.

Also, wanted to know if the speed of the modem can effect
sensitivities and if I should get a modem that has a lower speed.
I know if I use DSL it effects me but if I use Dial up I'm OK.  Just
wondering if the same thing applies to the speed of Cable Modems.
I'm switching from DSL to Cable to see if I do better with Cable.

Thanks!
Susan

Yes, that looks like it doesn't have any wi-fi.

I use a "business gateway" modem with Comcast (manufactured by SMC Networks), and it also doesn't have wi-fi.  I bought mine used on eBay... works fine.

I know what you are saying about how the DSL speed affects sensitivities, and for that reason I never changed the speed on my Comcast, because I don't want to risk making things worse.  Although the cable is far faster than my DSL was.

I thought about you today, Susan.  As I look for a space, I am on the line w/ phone companies 9 to 10 hours a day!  It is quite hard to find a spot w/ DSL or any wired service.  I have learned that the new faster speeds require a different modem called VDSL rather than DSL.  So far I have only found one of those on the market that does not have wifi in it. I have spoken w/ actiontek and my concerns about the wifi becoming enabled again on wifi modems is very real and they say I need one without any and should not risk it.  From the horses mouth...   From what I have learned I am going to try to get the lower speeds even 1.5 so I can stay w/ my modem and also my modem works w/ a DC only electric system.  The more rural and better for me spaces probably will have the VDSL only and if I can't get tech to demand a change in my line I will have to pay the fortune for the wired VDSL modem and have them cut the speed in half. I need to spend less time on as is.

I have the aris modem that is similar from when I had comcast. I have found it can not be converted to be used in a DC pulg and therefore would require and inverter to work-NO WAY JOSE on that. As soon as I find a spot I am thru w/ the grid and it's smart crap.  That will mean no cable option for me. If I could do that I would have more options of rural less dense areas to live. I have found the companies other than centurylink and frontier very unwilling to work w/ special needs on modems.  I am filing an ADA dept of justice on one as they are refusing me DSL service that is compatable with my modem, unless I take a wifi modem: a good chance the thing could start transmitting when I do not realize it: someone will eventually when they find me catatonic and frozen laying there. Not worth it.

It has been recommended to me to try to find a cable modem that can plug into DC. I'd go that way if I could. So much less drama w/ some select cable companies I will not support comcast or AT and T due to their forcing bad technologies on people more than most companies do.
