Big power lines - how far away is far enough?

R. Ticle
Hey everyone -

I have the chance to stay in my trailer at a rural property some of
this year. I checked the place out. Zero RF between 800 mhz to 6.0
ghz on Gigahertz Solutions RF meters. Nada. Great!

Only thing is, looming in the distance are massive high voltage power
lines. You know the ones, on the huge metal scaffolds, aka, "pylons"
in the UK, the kind that will spike a Trifield meter's Magnetic and
Electric readings off the chart when you drive under them.

In fact, they cross the back field of the property. Now, the part I
could be staying on is (by our guesstimate) about 450 or more meters
away from the power lines. (It's a large farm property).

I could not pick up even a whisper of electric or magnetic field on
the Trifield 100 XE meter at that distance. I trudged through knee
deep snow til I could walk no more, and I guessed to be 100 meters
away from the power lines - still nothing on the Trifield meter. This
is probably the closest to them I'd have any reason to be.

So, apart from the fact that they look hideous and imposing, being so
tall and high up in the distance, do you think I have anything to
worry about? I mean, I can pick up more EMF from residential
powerlines on the meter by walking down the sidewalk...

No matter, I'd like to hear what you think.

Oh - the landowner said that they're planning to add another corridor
of power lines just like these ones across from them at some unknown
date in the future - mind you, these would be farther, rather than
closer, to the property, but still, it's one more thing to consider.

Anyway, thoughts are, as always, appreciated.

Thanks!

R.

No reading today doesn't mean no reading when you go to stay there, check
with the Electricity company if the lines were in use that day.

Have a look at the Bristol Light Show, a graphic picture of the EMR from
high voltage lines. There's a couple of articles about it and pictures on
http://electrosensitivity.co.uk/7.html.

Download the file http://electrosensitivity.co.uk/doc/BristolLightShow.doc

And don't forget we're all different, you might suffer badly with no
readings on the meters, or have no ill-effects with a strong reading.

Best wishes

John

Hmm...if I remember correctly, they were in use - I think I checked
them with the Trifield meter as we drove under them, which we had to
do to get to the property.

I know, it's difficult to determine things immediately, for me at
least. In some cases I have to spend time to know how I'll feel -
unfortunately, this place isn't the sort where I can bring all my
stuff, move in and if I don't feel so well after two weeks, move out.

Now, other cases I know right away if I feel good or not - like the
time I went through a town hall full of seniors having lunch, in a
room lit with hundreds of overhanging CFL bulbs. Blech! Believe me, I
walked through as fast as I could.

Argh, I appreciate the responses. Keep 'em coming if you've got 'em.

Best,

R.

Best way to tell is how you feel I think. I don't think it would work for me. I think we are more sensitive then the meters. Loni

One more thing,

I also believe we are more sensitive than the meters.....I've been in a few
spots where the meters showed nothing significant but I was very reactive to
some type if freqency,

maybe some earth vibration, hartman or curry line
