Alumina Foil insulator under siding..a problem?

laurel canyon

Hello,

I have noticed in the past a problem with being in certain houses with the EMF, microwaves, etc. Then I had to relocate myself and I noticed that at another house I was ok with certain electrical items running..unlike at a previous place I was staying where ANYTHING turned on was torture.

Well, the other day I was curious about a house for sale and got out of thecar to take a look and noticed that under the vinyl siding was a foam panel insulator with alumafoil(?I think that is what it was called). I knew I had problems with being in any house with aluminum siding, but I could not understand why certain houses with vinyl siding were a problem and others were not. Now I know. Some vinyl sided houses have this aluminum foil covered foam under the siding, while others do not. The place I am currently at does not have such insulator under the siding.

Has anyone else noticed this problem with the aluminum foil type of insulator under the siding? I am so discouraged. This has just narrowed my alreadyprison-like existence to having even less options for finding a place. I need to find a home to live in(nevermind the money-problem side of getting aplace), but now the options for a "safe" place to live has narrowed even more than I previously was aware of.

Is there anything anyone has done that has improved this particular kind ofproblem in their home with such siding(if it was a problem to begin with)? As it is, the options for finding a place that I could tolerate were so slim, now I find one more thing to put on my "CANNOT TOLERATE THESE CONDITIONS" list for what to look for in the future in a home. As it is, I have not been able to tolerate any place due to chemical sensitivities and allergies(not stores, offices, etc).. but I had hopes of some day getting a place that I could at least control my own environment.. now with WIFI, RF, microwave and other.. those hopes are vanishing. I guess if I got a house some day,  I could always have all the siding torn off??? then what?

If anyone has any suggestions.. if you could send those to [hidden email]  that would be great. Excuse the lengthy post. I don't seem to be able to briefly explain things these days. I also don't get to a computer too often and this email gets clogged up with so many posts and for some reason I cannot go back very far in posts on this yahoo email of mine(not sure what changed), so I don't want to miss any responses. TIA,  laurel

I know someone who feels that metal roofs are a problem for him.
But I also know someone who coats the inside of all his walls with
aluminum foil to block the microwaves. I think it's likely that the metal
itself is not the problem, it's more likely current going through the metal,
due to ground loops that run near the panel. But, any device that
radiates microwaves (like a cell or cordless phone) will be much worse
in such a place. With a computer, if it's near a wall, it may be like
having two computers.

You need to get an AM radio (listen for buzzing between stations) and
some kind of gaussmeter. Ideally the tri-field from alpha labs with 100x
external probe. If you can't afford that, get a "buzz stick" or telephone
listener (available from lessEMF). You also need some kind of microwave
detector (better than the tri-field one), like the electrosmog detector.

If you can get rid of all the current, the metal foil could be a big plus
for
blocking microwaves.

I would avoid any house with vinyl siding too.  Besides the possible outgassing of pvc affecting your chemical sensitivity, if there were a fire your house would be filled with toxic gas.  I tore off the siding on our house, the part that is not cement block, because it has a composite wood siding that probably contained formaldehyde.  My wife was sure it was outgassing.  I replaced it with real wood tongue in groove siding from Home Depot.  It cost more than sheet siding, but no formaldehyde.  My other choice would have been hardie plank, which is made of cement board.  This is also a good insulator against emfs, but I was afraid of the dust in cuttingit and did not feel it would nail on nicely.  I wound up covering the inside with hardiebacker over the drywall.  It is usually used for shower walls for ceramic tile installation.  I put it up to block emfs and hope to some day have the time to install porcelain tile on these walls inside,
which will block more emf.  It is quite a project, but my wife likes theblocking effect against emfs.  Hardieplank and hardiebacker are also mold and fire resistant.

Hardiebacker is good stuff, although one batch I used had a smell to it.
I guess with a lot of materials you really have to check every batch.

Great info, Mike,

Thanks!  Great idea to use hardiebacker and porcelain both on the walls!  Can hardiebacker be plastered over?  Just wondered for future use if we are ever redoing walls.

Thanks again,
Diane

They use this in the UK almost as a matter of course on new builds, often
the brand name is cellotex, it offers very good thermal insulation but as you
say can be a problem, but think yourself lucky as when it is installed in new
builds it goes and remains hidden in the cavity brick/block walls, so
unsuspecting residents who bring in the wireless toys are sitting in a microwave
oven of sorts, it has good sheilding properties from the outside scources as it
is double skin thick foil, but allas it has many gaps where the boards are
stacked together. I have may sheets of this rather expensive insulation and
it does work well as an emf blocker when put to use for that reason.
