Were they replaced by zirconium? I once tried Lava Crowns but the margin wasn't right so I switched dentists but he uses the Cerec E-Max crowns. I haven't had an issue with them breaking (and I'm a grinder) but I did have gum erosion on one and the tooth below it got soft so I had to have it replaced after only 5 years.

I used to have emacs, but they all fell apart after a few years, and were replaced with something else.
