AC motors are the safest.  Choose the lowest wattage that will do the job. Mechanical is better than electronic. If it has a clock or lit up display it will emit all the time it is plugged in. Unplug it when not being used, don't just switch off. Get a EM meter and check its earthed properly ie no field. Keep as far away from it as poss.
