Maybe you should be on the lookout for the specific model you like via eBay or something similar.  I have sometimes "stocked up" on older electronics that I tolerate, because I know the newer models are worse.

 I thought e-ink looked promising, but the first & only Kindle I bought was intolerable.

My computer keyboard and mouse are both from the 1990s. Bought on eBay.  No problem with those.  :-)
