Yes, a mouse pad will make all the difference in the world.
It can be made of cork or felt.

By the way, ball mice are still available (not for Mac) at http://www.lessemf.com/computer.html#310

Subject: [ES] Anyone else forced to use an old style ball mouse?

Who else is forced to use an old style ball mouse? I've been using Dell ball mice lately and I'm getting tired of it not always moving smoothly. I keep the rollers inside nice and clean to no avail.

Any suggestions on a different brand/model and where to buy it? I'm currently using it on a glass desktop and wondering if mouse pads might help, but most modern mouse pads are either designed for optical mice or made of soft foam that I won't tolerate (chemical sensitivity).

Cheers.
