steve, which operating system are you using?
i use 10.6.8 on my iMac and 'elcapitan' on my
laptop. when i was using a newer OS on my
laptop, it was horrible for me. when i moved
to 'elcapitan', it asked if i wanted it to do a
security thing to prevent theft, i suppose, and
i said, "NO!", because i figured it was going to
be constantly in touch with some cell tower
somewhere and i wanted it to be an ethernet
computer. i can still use wifi at the library but
when i turn it back to ethernet, it seems to
stick.

Well, every now and then my wi-fi turns on by itself. Can't figure it out and neither can anyone on the Mac forums.
