I've been using a PS/2 ball mouse for years without ES problems, but the ball and it's lack of good screen control I find rather annoying.  I've actually just purchased several different optical mice to see if I can find one that's acceptable.  One of these mice is even made out of bamboo and has a ferrite built into the cable! (but it hasn't arrived yet, so I have no idea if it's tolerable or not)
