Hi:Ellen: This is a very good question.I believe that the comments of Dave Stetzer are quit different and unrelated to this discussion. I have had very little experience with the effects of magnetic fields originating in the Soil. I am not sure if there is a method of testing for them or not.
I would not be concerned about going bare foot any where that is physically safe for your feet.

I understand that water is a bipolar element. This means that water can take on ether a positive + or negative - Charge. I have been able to add a negative charge to water using the - pole side of a bar magnet. I have also been able through actual testing to show that water has taken on a negative charge when exposed to  the negative side of a bar magnet.
I now use this negative charged water as a medicine to control my "Chronic Reversed Polarity" health condition with good success.
