thanks, laurie! that was interesting.
i suspect that putting a little citrus peel in a
smoothie and whiz it in a blender -
especially a vitamix or similar power-blender,
it will 'modify' those pectin chains.
however, since nature is kind, i also suspect
that if we just add a little citrus peel to our diet,
we will benefit. some very delicious recipes
call for it - they call it 'zest' - and i remember
when i used to live in gainesville florida and
at the farmer's market, i'd buy just picked
organic oranges and the peel was so sweet
that i'd eat the whole thing - peel, seeds, pulp.
they were delicious. they also make candy
from the rinds of citrus fruits… tasty! oh, yes,
kumquats are meant to be eaten whole…
it's really good to know that the pectin can
be so helpful. i'll make a point of eating it now.
it's the job of pharmaceutical and supplement
companies to make you think that you NEED
their products, that food is not enough. :)
but if you eat a high quality diet with lots of
organic fruits and vegetables, whole foods only,
and eat most of your food raw - you'll be so
healthy you won't be able to stand it. :) and
know that bodies also regenerate. for healing,
peace of mind is VERY helpful and good whole
foods are also VERY helpful.
love, patricia
