At which point I have no more helpful advice... :-(

As I said before, I have experienced this myself, but it was
fixed by changing computers, not changing the mouse.

However, I will note that the computer mice that I use
are ancient -- they use the PS/2 interface (and I have
a USB to PS/2 adapter for one computer), and
they have a ball on the bottom (no LED/laser).
Manufactured by Microsoft in the 1990s.
