When my wife got a Lenovo X200 laptop, I noticed that the
chemical smell of it (new) was very bothersome to me for
at least the first week.  I also didn't much like the piercing LED
backlight, but dimming it and increasing the red color
channel and/or decreasing the blue color channel helped
with that.

The netbook I use on trips is a Lenovo IdeaPad S10-2,
which I bought used (and cheap) on eBay.  It seems okay
to me, although for wireless I use a wi-fi or 3g transmitter/receiver
connected to a USB cable (6 foot cable in airports, 15 foot
cable in hotels)
