I have been given wireless modems on the basis that you can go wired, I  
need one that can support a lan for 2 pcs - but everytime I test the ethernet  
wired connection on these wireless modems/routers I find the wifi signal is
 still there and not disabled !!!!

same for the XBOX that's pumping out wifi all the time evan on  standby
until you unplug it !

Cancel the service. Get a different  Internet
service provider.

Or replace the Comcast wireless modem  with a
wired modem. Comcast will probably do it for you
if attempt to  cancel the service. Or if not,
buy an old one on  eBay.
