It varies -- some laptops are terrible (for me), and some
aren't so bad.  But I prefer desktops for the reason you
state -- it is easier to get away from the CPU and the
monitor, leaving you only close to the keyboard and mouse.
Also, this gives you the freedom to experiment with
the most tolerable CPU, the most tolerable monitor,
the most tolerable keyboard, and the most tolerable
mouse...
