puk replies - sounds like tenosynovitis to me a for of recognised RSI, the  
missing link in all of the RSI scenario is the emfs and particularly he low
 frequency fields that your hands are imersed in when using the keyboard
and  mouse, worse if you have a habit of keeping hand on mouse and keyboard as
you  are making a very good circuit with your upper body. You might wish to
treat the  sore thumb etc as per advice for RSI and see how you go,
