Marc,
I agree that there a ton of supplements out there
loaded with toxins. I check sources
for manufacturing process, sourcing, and often order the data safety
information to make sure product has been properly screened for
toxins. And when available, I prefer to use organic and whole food supplements.
Organic India Tulsi, has one of the best ratings for product purity levels.
And as for anti-cortisol, there is definitely a divided school of thought there. I too
believed that same thing. I sat in a seminar for 8 hrs one day on herbs, and listened
to many people ask the same question about Holy Basil. The Herbalist, 20 yrs in
the field, was so adement in her description about the benefits of Tulsi, I went
home and did some more research. I decided to find the best one I could find,
and give it a try. I used the Organic India's Organic Holy BAsil Tulsi, with some
Royal Jelly and the raw adrenal cortex. For me, this has worked wonders.
I was severely mercury poisoned over the years, bwt my mercury silver fillings
and growing up in a factory town. (yes, the fillings came out.)
In a nutshell, chelating did not work very well
for me. What did work was supporting the immune system, and giving the body
the tools it needs to do its job. (Iodine, Magnesium, thryoid and adrenal support)
My understanding is that Tulsi Holy Basil helps to "normalize" cortisol levels. *This
means if they are too high, Tulsi will lower them, and if they are too low, Tulsi
will help raise the levels. That's why they call Holy Basil an adaptogen.
My cortisol levels were rock
bottom years ago. My total output for a 24 hr period, was 0.9! (saliva testing)
Healthy adrenal glands put out betw 25-40.
I totally believe that trying to chelate heavy metals and toxins out of the body,
without sufficinent A). immune support, and B). vital minerals that the body needs-
can do more damage then good. People need to understand that any chelating
process/therapy tends to pull out, not just the bad heavy metals, but also
the good ones. And in a body that has been deficient in the good minerals
for years, it can take a year to re-build/re-store the body to healthy
levels.

Also Tulsi is supposed to accumulate mercury from its environment... :-(
I tried a few different Holy Basil/Tulsi teas and supplements, and
could not tolerate any of them. They all caused me "heavy metal
poisoning" symptoms.
