Hi Mark,

For the initial problem with the fans, I can relate as one time some people came to my house and plugged in a strong motor into the outlet for a water hose, and my head was feeling uncomfortable. I checked my Trifield meter and saw a brief surge in the power line EMF while the motor was on. After they moved the motor elsewhere, I felt better.

It's definitely a multi-faceted problem. Microwaves, power lines, and dirty electricity cause problems for people.

Btw, what type of shielding cloth did you use? Note that they only help for microwave EMFs, NOT for power line EMFs. Also, for microwaves, you should use something strong, 20 dB is not enough. I'd prefer 60 dB. Also keep in mind the cloth works by deflection, so often you need to be well-enclosed (almost a Faraday cage) for it to work.

Hi Stephen,
By relative powers, a radio tower is typically much stronger than a cell tower. For example, a typical cell tower might be ~100 milliW to 10 W transmit power. Meanwhile, a radio tower could be 6000 to 100000W transmit power.

So if you have to be hundreds of meters away from a cell tower to be safe, then you might have to be tens of thousands of meters from a radio tower. This is just approximation though, I'm not sure the attenuation factors for different wavelengths.

With the Sutro tower study (Cherry, 2002), cancer appears to increase as you get closer to it. At 3km, you're still 5 times likely to get cancer of some kind (1uW/cm^2). Many other radio/TV tower studies (Australia, Great Britain, and Rome) have also found increased cancer.

Hope this helps,

They've told me most radio communication anywhere in the world between ships goes via that radio station... In the 2nd world war they were also used for military purposes... I think it's a radio station, one of the most important in Europe...

They lived 1 mile from the masts and there my headache returned and I felt almost immediately better when driving elsewhere... Then I was really sure I wasn't imagining anything, I concluded that I just have to stay out of there!
