No, a switching power supply is just one of several options... from
what's written on the label, I'm not convinced that is a switching
power supply... maybe someone knows more about this, as I'm hardly
an expert...

You may be reacting to whatever is converting the signal from digital
to analog. The power supply may have nothing to do with it...
