Hi Ole
Maybe you took me up wrong or I didn;t convey it the way I wanted to but what I meant was i read a report that introducing the intense light fromthe lightbox in the depth of winter would not be a good idea - as in the case of someone thinking by Mid December "oh I have SAD - would buying a lighbox help?" amd the report advised that it would be better to buy the lightbox and start to use it towards the end of the summer onwards, and that to buy it in the depth of winter and start to use it straight away could make the SAD symptoms worse.

Rebound SAD from using light therapy - that means you would get it worse from sunlight as well - this is just nonsense.

Hi Alexa
I know what you mean - I hate it when it gets dark at 4pm and i long for the summer evenings. I did quite a bit of research into light therapy a whileback and read that the lightbox has to be in use well before the dark evenings start - and that if you don't actually start to use it until the middle of winter then the rebound SAD which you can get from starting it nowish can be much worse - I can't remember what the reason for that was but that stuck with me. I try to get as much sunshine in the summer as possible and try to get a top up if possible by going somewhere sunny for a week in February but even then its not enough and the vit d3 has been the best thing for me so far. I get mine from Prohealth.

I have SAD and I use a light box. I measured it with my gauss meter and it is surprisingly low on emissions (in the 50-60Hz range). At the distance I need to sit from it (18") the amount is just room ambient reading. Maybe it's shielded. It has full spectrum bulbs and is Northern Lights brand. I also take Vitamin D - 2000IU a day and it definitely helps but even with all that I find the dark days somewhat oppressive.
