Try the EEE PC from Asus. Or an OLPC (but it's frustrating to use).
Get the EEE with SSD. 10" screen. Run on battery when in use.

Mac laptops are pretty good. Unfortunately the nice new ones don't have
a removable battery (but claim 7 hrs battery usage).
