I read online (if wikipedia can be trusted) there are two types of AMR devices.

-two-way- the car patrolling sends a signal and *wakes up* the gas meter device and the gas meter device sends the data to the car

-one-way- the gas meter device is continually transmitting a signal

So I called Dominion to find out which one it is and they said they would look into it and let me know.

I guess there's a battery inside that they have to keep replacing.

Could be solar powered though. If any of you are wondering if you're

going to get this, you could contact your local utilities and ask if

they plan to install an Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) system.
