Hi group,
We have returned from spending 2 weeks in Green Bank, WV, home of the
National Radio Astronomy Observatory. My nearly 4 year old son has skin and
failure to thrive problems. We rented a log cabin about 3 miles from NRAO.
While there, his skin improved tremendously, and his weight went up.
Remarkably, when his skin started to itch, taking him to the site of the
Observatory stopped the itching. The problem was that he seemed to get
worse as we traveled farther from NRAO, even in as little as 10 miles away.
The Observatory is really strict about EM pollution only in the immediate
vicinity (probably around a 10 mile radius). Past that, there are power
substations, and even one radio station 10 miles south of the telescope.
We were not able to find a home to rent close enough to the Observatory to
live there. But there are homes for sale. Anyone interested in trying it
out before buying can rent cabins by the week. Of course, they are
expensive (about $50-60 a night with weekly rates, higher with daily rates).
There used to be a B&B there, but it is closed now.
We are convinced enough that we are planning to build a new home with a
Faraday cage in it. Has anyone ever done this? Any tips would be
appreciated.
Helen
