The best solution is a 1982-1985 mercedes diesel (240D or 300D, avoid 300SD
if possible).
Older diesels should also be low emf. On the 82-85s the biggest issue is
the
voltage regulator, but it's not too hard to unplug the alternator (there's a
metal wire
clip that you have to flip away with a screwdriver, then just pull the plug;
if
you need to plug it back in, don't bother with the clip. Be aware the cable
is live at 12 V and can give quite a spark if the plug touches anything
metal.
)
Then you just need another way to charge the battery (you'll need a deep
cycle battery,
the only one I know of is the yellow Optima, which runs about $200). Then
you can
add a solar panel or two. In the summer I can do pretty well with a 15 watt
glass
panel on the trunk lid (I use a cheap simple 7A solar regulator that does
not do pulse modulation).
These ideas came from Bruce M., and they've worked well for me. I did
disconnect a lot
of electric stuff that wastes battery power and adds EMFs (tach, clock,
antenna, radio, heater valve, climate
computer, cruise computer). I live in a good solar climate, and in the
winter have used a flexible
panel on the roof. Occasionally I need to use a charger overnight
(intellicharger is good).
Any non-diesel car has spark plugs and will never be truly low-emf. But, I
do know very ES
people who do fine in older gasoline cars & trucks. I agree you want the
base model
with no extra gadgets.
