Because there might be something out there that works for you.

Seems like we need a Gizmo of the Month ring, like the old fashioned round
robin.

Each month you post the gizmo you are currently trying to the next person on
the ring, together with your comments and the comments of everyone else who's
tried it.
And you get the next gizmo to try with the comments of everyone else who's
tried it.

Minimum 'waste of money', and maximum exposure to gizmos.
Once the ring has been established, manufacturers might send free samples
for the ring to try.
Most manufacturers believe their products work, usually because someone
who's tried it has told them 'it helped me'. Con men go for a quick killing and
then move on.
Now that gizmo might only help one-in-a-thousand, but that one-in-a-thousand
might be you.
