Federal Communications Commission recently auctioned off a portion of
the radiofrequency spectrum to companies such as AT & T and Verizon for
almost $20 billion. These frequencies were made available by altering
U.S. television broadcasting to digital (beginning next year).

AT & T claims it will make wireless services available to 95% of U.S.
homes.
