Yes, I had thought myself afterwards that there would be some kind of
change in the sound as it is interpreted by the ears. But I would be
interested if the adjustment is the same in all humans. Surely, we
must all hear the same thing to a certain extent or else there would
be no choirs or orchestras!

I put my ear up against the fridge and there are various sounds but
the bassiest droning one to me sounds like the note G (above middle
C).

I would be interested to know if others hear it as rougly the same,
ie in the area of notes between F and B, above middle C)

I think mines definitely the 'death tone'. At present it is fairly
background, but when it gets bad it seems to reverberate through
house and body, as Maureen says. Not nice, but hopefully not fatal!
I'm 100 metres from a small transformer for heavens sake!
